Bill, Pat & Jim, thanks for taking the time to reply, I have had a look thru the website and theres lots of great info that has helped me already, regarding the 1941 Plymouth, I thought it must have been a fairly unusual one as the ASC thing appeared to be low volume in some other books I had seen. Hi Andy - Regarding your questions about your P11 coupe and the figures shown in the Standard Catalog. Actually, I wrote the Plymouth section of that book, John Lee (who is a long time friend of mine) was the overall editor of the book. Plymouth did built RHD drives at the factory in Detroit for shipment overseas. Now, the term "build" is relative.....it could have been a complete car or it could have been a CKD (completely knocked down) car shipped in crates (many cars to a crate) for local assembly in one of Plymouth's many overseas assembly plant. I believe Atkinson-Oakes would have been the South African distributor/manufacturer. ALL cars, regardless of where they were final assembled, received a USA (or Windsor, Ontario, Canada) serial number -- in your cars case 15043851 indicates a P11 Deluxe "built" in Detroit at the Lynch Road assembly plant. Checking the official build sheets there were only 6 auxiliary seat coupes shipped as CKD units, so your car was probably a complete car when it left Detroit. Now comes the confusing part. Plymouth built the P11 "Plymouth" line as its cheapest series, next up was the P11D or "Deluxe". I have no way of telling from the serial number if your car was a P11 or a P11D. If it was a P11, only 69 were built. It its a P11D, 137 were built. Either way, its a rare car. No cars of this body type were souced from the Canadian plant. I would suggest you contact Chrysler Historial, send them $45 U.S. and request a copy of your cars built sheet. If you want, contact me at

I don't have the answers to your questions, just wanted to say "Welcome." I have friends in Melbourne; the husband grew up in Bendigo, and the wife is from Echuca. I attended the Bendigo swap meet in 2005 with them. I live in north central Illinois.

My ride is a '36 Plymouth convertible, which looks OK from 20 feet away.

Welcome. I looked at your model website. Both of your cars are nice,
but I really like your "new" 1941 coupe.

I do not have any knowledge of 1941 Plymouths, but on Todd Fitch's
website, it shows 1941 Plymouth P-11's built in Detroit as starting
with serial number 15000101 and ending with number 15135030.
This list shows cars built in Detroit, Evansville, Los Angeles and Windsor,
but there is no mention of export models in the list.

Gidday from Sunny Sth Grafton NSW Australia, have just joined this forum/group thanks to Bob Drown from NY, I have a couple of mopars, the 1940 Australian Dodge 4Dr Sedan I've had since 1971, it uses the Plymouth body shell with Dodge grille etc and my most recent purchase is a 1941 Plymouth P11 Coupe.
This car was bought from a guy here in Australia who supposedly purchased it about 10 yrs ago from a guy who imported it from Sth Africa. Its the normal US body style, however I was told that is was a factory RHD car built in Sth Africa, John Lee's Standard Catalog of Chrysler book makes mention of a factory opening in 1941 & closing for the duration of WW2 in 1942. This car has the folding rear jump seats so i have assumed that this is the Auxillary Seat option, as the tag on the US drivers side of the firewall is " P11 1063 ASC " the only other numbered tag is on the USA passenger side door pillar(my drivers side) which has " 15043851 " , which I take to be the actual body number.
I have a couple of questions if anyone can answer......is there any way to tell if this is actually a RHD Sth African car......it looks factory,ie, it does not appear to be a LHD car thats been converted to RHD and the body build has USA style things that don't match the Australian built Mopars like internal door hinges, the proper angled B pillar that no Oz built coupe ever had, internal door stampings are unlike any Oz car, ie, it uses US style internal door & winder handles........
Does the 15043851 number indicate an Export chassis/body?......also John Lee's book indicates that there were 994 1941 2Dr Club Coupes-4P(Place?) and that there were 1,387 P11 RHD cars made........I take this to mean that the 1387 RHD P11's included all body styles and that the 994 Club Coupes is both LHD & RHD so this is a fairly uncommon car...........lol......
