fuel & brake line routings... and what the heck is this??

That gizmo you are curious about is an air filter for the vacuum shift assist that was available on the 41. If it is missing, you can count yourself fortunate. They were popular on the Chevrolet where they did not work any better.

The engine block may have been black, but the head was definitely silver. I had an original 37 with a black block and silver head and also a 40 which was the same. My present 40, however appears to have been all silver.

The armor is like a spring that slips over the tubing for protection. There is also a piece that fits the brake line from the proportioning valve to under the brake and clutch pedals. It is not shown in the pictures. I can give the exact measurements if you need them.

Your description sounds pretty accurate. The brake line clips to the inside of the frame rail through holes in the bottom of the rail (3 also) and then up to the same metal clip that the fuel line uses. From there the brake line connects to the rubber hose that goes from the frame to the rear axel. There are also two clips that hold the line to the rear axel housing.

The only thing you did not mention was the armor cable that covers the brakeline where it runs under the clutch and brake pedals and the on the fule and brake lines where they go under the frame at the rear.

I am between computers and don't have access to all of my pictures. I can take more if you need details that are not shown in these.

No Problem... From what I can tell on what I have...
I've bent new Fuel line from the brass connector at the rubber hose for the fuel pump all the way to out back. It is attached by bent over metal up front where it follows the contor of the front brace, runs up beside the drivers upper control arm and then down to a bolted on clip on the outside drivers side frame rail. There it connects to another brass fitting and to 3 wire clips on the outside of the frame rail. Then it goes under the rail, and over the drivers rear strut mount, to a metal clip and then to the tank.

The brake line going back to the same area seems to go off the rear of the porpotioning valve/brake switch, under the clutch/brake assembly, then down through a hole in the frame and then trace the inside of the drivers frame rail till it ends at the softline. I'm not certain where it clips along this route. Your notes are appreciated.

1936 and earlier had silver head and black block, starting in 1937 the whole engine was silver.

Just a heads up if you are looking for authenticity but that engine should be painted silver/aluminum, not black

Pat is close. It is the breather for the power shift set up on the transmission.

This is just a wild guess, I've never owned a '41.

I wonder if it is a vacuum canister for a vacuum shift assist. Did the '41s have a vacuum shift? Anyway, that's my guess.

Hey Folks,
I'm in the process of bending new lines for my 41 and was wondering if someone (mvair??) had some pics of brake and fuel line routings and where the clips go.? I should have taken some more pics while I was disassembling, but so goes life.? Here are some pics of my progress...

and as the super bonus question for 249 points.. what the heck is this thing for?? Its on the drivers side behind the pedals.? Picture is taken looking towards the rear.
