Plymouthcranbrook ... I agree!  I drive My Volare to work at least 3 days a week. I switch out every other day with my 59 Chevy Apache!

I have an 80 4 door Volare with the slant 6 and I also really like to take it out. Our Dairyland meetings are often far apart(3 hours one way or more) and I wanted to have something that would make good time.  Mine has just under 12,000 orginal miles and is a Special model.  The funny part is that in 1980, you couldn't have given me this car. Not fast or hot enough.  Now it is the greatest thing I have owned in a long time.  Although I do need to get the spare resister everyone talks about.  Good times.

thanks David... If you are ever in Texas drop over and we can take the Volare for a spin around the block..... Oh yes I do have an extra dual ballast resistor in the trunk!

Cliff, I sold my 79 Volare wagon and I miss it. Had a 76 too.  If yours has the dual ballast resistor, carry a spare. It is about all that ever goes wrong with the ignition but they did cause trouble. A couple of bucks may save you a tow bill if you get a "no start".  dp

Great story, thanks for sharing it. It makes a lot of difference when you can drive your car and enjoy it instead of working on it only, that gets old. I have kept my '37 where I can drive in between work. That way when I get discouraged about all there is to do I can go for a drive and renew my determination to finish the work.

I can't figure out how to post photos on here but if  you can we would love to see a pic of your '77

Hi Gang,
this past weekend Robin and I drove our 1977 Plymouth Volare on a 600 mile Trek in East Texas.
My wife wanted to see her brother in Rusk Texas, and her Father in Mt. Pleasant TX. Our adventure started in our hometown of Mineral Wells TX, We took off at about 12noon, 78 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. Our Plymouth is very nice and has 56,000 miles she is the 2 door coupe and sports the trusty 318. Even though this Plymouth CAN do highway speeds I like to keep her at 60 mph. (after all she is 31 years old) and this gives me about 17 M.P.G.
We drove to Rusk Texas and spent the night at my brother-in-laws 100+ year old house, check it out..................

We then drove to Mt Pleasant TX and had a blast driving past lost of old cars and trucks in and around farm houses and barns. If you guys ever get a chance, try driving the back roads of Texas and I bet you will find some great deals. I really enjoyed driving
the 77. I got several  20-something kiddos asking me about this car. Most think its a "Muscle Car"  ::)  and I just tell them that this old Plymouth is just like what I drove back in High School. I even show them what a WORKING 8-Track looks and sounds like.  ;D
This weekend is what it should be....... Spending time with what and who you love.
