Hello,

I have a pretty good set of original rear fender welt.? I got it off my 50 4-dr sedan parts car, cleaned it up, soaked it in hot water and it is now pretty nice.? But, there is that caveat - "If I can find it".? Let me know if you want me to dive into my messy garage.?

If yours are still in one piece, I suggest you soak them in a tub of hot water, scrub them good and then, if there is any old paint on them, use 400 grit sandpaper or 000 steel wool to remove it.? Then, before painting, try a bit of glycerine to see if that will restore the black color.

I do not know of any source for the welting as used on 49-52, but the original is very durable and I have simply painted it black with good results.

Where can you get the flat type of fender welt used on the 1949-1952 cars. Can you restore by painting the original fender welt black?
