1941 P12 Mystery Bracket

Thanks. My factory manual calls the spring that attaches to the clutch fork the "clutch pedal return spring" and that is why I used that term as opposed to the clutch overcenter spring. In any event I know what you mean.

I did not see any pictures that looked like yours. The cable clamp however is exactly like all the ones shown. Just to clarify, it is not the clutch pedal return spring that attaches to this bracket...it is the clutch fork return spring that attaches.

Thank you very much for your reply and confirming that I am at least looking in the correct area. Did any of the brackets illustrated in your parts book look like mine?
Using the length of the exposed handbrake cable to determine the location of the bracket is a good idea. I figure the length of the clutch pedal return spring at rest should also help. I had hoped that the cut out on the bracket would also be a clue but so far no luck.
It is just frustrating to know approximately where it goes but still be unable to find the exact mounting points.

Your bracket looks different from the one on my P12 coupe. I checked the parts book and there were at least three different brackets illustrated (from different years) with each being attached a little differently. They all had an attachment point near the transmission or clutchhousing. You could measure the exposed legnth of brake cable from from the end of the cable to the cable housing. This would give you a rough estimate of where your bracket goes.

The attached picture is a bottom view of the bracket on my car without the cable installed. You can see it is held in place by a bolt on the bottom of the clutch housing where the dust pan is cut out and on the front of the clutch housing where the reinforcement is between the block and the clutch housing. My bracket has a bend however where yours appears straight.

I wonder if yours is from a different year or if there were variations during 1941?

Does anyone recognize this bracket? I removed it from my 1941 P12 when I removed the engine and transmission. Now that I have reinstalled the engine and transmission I have forgotten where it goes and can't seem to find the correct mounting holes. I think one end of the clutch return spring attaches to it and the emergency brake cable fits in the clamp but for the life of me I can't determine where the bracket bolts in.
