You might check on ebay for Dave Kruse (I think that's right), he often has repro rubber parts listed there.   I know for sure that he has posted on the 49-50Plymouth website on Yahoo Groups.   He's making reproduction rubber and will even take an original piece and reproduce it (at least he has).

You must have one heck of a hardware store! The grommet I'm referring to is 1 1/2 inches in diameter, has four lugs at the NESW positions on the front; on the back has 8 lugs that make it look like a bevel gear. The center of the grommet has an indendation that is 7/8 inch across and is devided by a bar across the center. On either side of this bar the sides quickly taper down to one small hole (about 1/8") in each depression.

There were a couple of these grommets used in my firewall. For example, one was on the passenger (right) side where the heater tubes pass through the firewall. In one side of the grommet passed the cable for adjusting the heater box; the other hole had a wire that went to the fan motor that is located in the front of the radiator.

Does anyone know if one of the rubber parts manufacturers reproduces this unique grommet?

Those little grommets are available at most hardware stores.  U can make your own with a piece of rubber tubing- cut down one side lengthwise and cut to the length of the circumference.  Then a little dab of sealant makes it water tight around the wire. They look good are an easy fix.

James,

I sent you an e-mail with a copy of the '51 wiring diagram attached.
Hope it is not too big.  I sent it at 600 dpi.

I am in the process of rewiring a 1952 Savoy wagon and need help with some wiring.
Specifically, can you please advise me on the correct wire colors and tracer for the following applications:

1)? ? ? ?The wire from the horn relay post ?I?, through the armored cable, through the firewall, to ignition switch post ?IGN?. (I think this is a 16 gauge black, but not sure on the tracer, if any.)

2)? ? ? ?The wire from the headlight switch to the ignition switch bulb. (The original cloth covered wire appears to be a 16 gauge red with no tracer, but the wiring diagram shows 16 gauge black).

3)? ? ? ?The wire from the inline connector, through the steering column, to the horn button.

4)? ? ? ?The wire from the automatic choke. (unsure of color, tracer, and to what point it is to be attached.

5)? ? ? ?The wire from the positive post on the ignition coil to the distributor body. (unsure of color and tracer)

6)? ? ? ?There was a cylinder (I believe a condenser) attached to the ignition switch post ?ST? (in the center of the switch). The condenser (if it is that) appears to be damaged. Can you tell me anything about this part and if you know of a replacement source?

7)? ? ? ?Do you know of a source for original style rubber grommets that are used on the body for the wiring? I have one marked 1370461 (although the last digit is marred and difficult to see). Like the other grommets, this one is hard as a rock and brittle. Does anyone make a replacement?

Finally, in the interest of general knowledge, can you shed any light about tracers? In particular, I am interested to learn if there is a reason for using them and if there is a code or system for them. That is, other than the obvious differentiation of one wire from another, is there a reason why one wire would be marked in a certain way. For example, one wire might be black with no tracer. Another might be black with a single white tracer; and yet a third might be black with a double white tracer. Do you know if there is any logic to these uses?

Thanks - James
