removal of intake/exhaust manifold

The total numbers of fasteners is 13. Eleven nuts that go on the studs and two bolts.

Hiello, Dennis,

Assuming you're working on an older Dodge/Ply flat head six engine.....

Did you surely find and remove the nut from the centre of the manifold, which is up where you can't see it easily unless you look up under the manifold assembly, and both of the nuts from the recesses in the exhaust manifold?

If so, and all the nuts/washers are removed, try gently 'rapping' the manifold assembly with a soft ( lead or copper) hammer.

Sometimes those manifold assemblies will be well and truly 'stuck' on the two long studs through the exhaust manifolds. Spraying Kroil oil or equivalent on those studs may help a little, but, all too often, using screw drivers sharpened to a chisel-like edge as wedges to split the manifold gaskets and drive the manifold assembly away from the block may be the only good choice.

If the manifold will move away from the block even a little, applying Kroil oil to the studs at both ends, wedging the manifold away from the block a little, then driving it back against the block with a soft  hammer will eventually work the penetrating oil into those studs and free the manifold.

Is the best way to get the exhaust manifold off...(all bolts removed)..to gently pry it from the block-?? Is there another way-? (Don't want to damage any surfaces)I also sprayed some kroil between the manifold(s) and the block..just let this set for a while-? then tap/pry off-?? Thank you!! Dennis
