Loosening Exhaust Manifold Bolts-39 P-8

PB blaster works well.  Also remember the two manifolds are connected at teh heat riser so both need to come off together.  And be sure to get all 13 nuts off before trying to loosen the unit.  On my 46, the two longer studes on the lower side going throughthe large castings, had a collar of rust built up on them.  I had the fenders off at the time, and needed to use a piece of chain and a slide hammer to get it past these ridges.  Hopefully yours will not pose the same problem.

Usually the four bolts holding the two maniflds together will break before they budge.

Try tighetning the nuts a bit before attempting to take them off.  This will sometimes break the rust's hold before you try to back them off.

I got the niftiest little tool at Harbor Freight.  It is an adjustable flame nozzle that screws on to a hand held gas bottle. It really throttles the flame down to a pinpoint.  I think it was $14.  U might find it useful in this application.

I have a 39 P-8 and want to get the exhaust manifold removed /replaced. What is the best product that I can spray on those bolts to get them removed. I am hopeful that I can get them off without breaking them/stripping them, etc.
