Have always enjoyed this site  and haven't had download issues. However, we haven't been able to post pictures even with compressed zip files. The web host instructions haven't been of much help either. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Really slow tonight - unbelievable - keep getting can't connect again.  It has to be the hosting service is screwing around with something.  Maybe we should see what a dedicated server would cost.  Right now we are on a shared server.

I don't know why but it is lighting fast at home right now - it was dog-slow at work around two hours ago.  But I have had two complaints to GoDaddy -- they are the host we have - I still think I need to upgrade the software - but for now my home connection is pretty much as fast as it ever was.

I could see how much a dedicated server would cost - we are on a shared server now, that might speed things up.  Remember this is five year old software (Beta) that I am using - and it is FREE - so those two things make a big difference - HAMB & p15-d24 are using vBulletin - $180 - I am sure the club would spring for it - maybe that is what I should do but I need to find out more about conversion.

Maybe Free is just what you pay for.  That is NOT the host however that is the Forum software.

still S    L     O      W   why not try the host that p15-d24 and HAMB are on (v bulletin)  thise booth host a lot of traffic and significantly larger member numbers.  Deleting old post seems to be a drastic action, as is deleting members.

Okay, I think I may have improved the speed a bit.  I deleted all members who have not logged in for over 1000 days - there were about 200 of them - the board keeps a database of each member the posts they have not seen, when you do not log in for a LOOOONGG time, that database gets huge and slows the server down.  I may delete all users who have not logged in for 600 days if that will speed the board up for those of us who do use it.

I have noticed that if you hit the Refresh two little arrows in a circle in IE or the one arrow circle in Firefox - you will eventually - maybe two or three refreshes - get the page you want.

Still waiting for a reply from host.

I have been trying to figure out what is going on.  I have deleted two sub-boards - Join the POC and the sale and swap - I do need to try to upgrade this Forum Software - anyone have experience with SMF discussion board software????   I am a bit reluctant to upgrade - if it works don't fix it - but it is not working now.  Most of the rest of the board is fine but this discussion board uses MySQL 4.0 and the rest of the world is using 5.0 - our other databases are 5.0 - The classifieds seem to be pretty much fine and they depend on MySQL also.

I need about four hours to upgrade the board and I may loose some stuff - that is the bottom line.  If that does not work, I have to start deleting older posts.  Everything I read tells me that older posts should be deleted from time to time.  Maybe a newer version of the software will fix it.

The funny thing is I have been trying to get our provider to check their end and they say it is fine when they try it.

Anyone have experience with SMF????

I think its time to change service providers.  I tried several time to get connected over our road runner cable connection and got connectivity errors fromt he server.  There is not enough traffic on this forum  two to three new posts per day, to have that happening with the site so it must be your host server.  Then if connection is accomplished it darn slow, many time it times out before showing a post.

Hope you are ot heading for another meltdown.
