Starter ID Plates

I tried everything short of having mine "professionally" done. Finally I bought a reproduction plate that Lindsay McConnel picked up at Hershey. There was no model number stamped on the reproduction plate so I stamped it myself. The stamping is passible...but not perfect. Someone suggested having it engraved at a trophy shop, but I don't think that would look very original.

The color of the paint on the tag is not the right red (should be more orange); however, it does look a lot better than the old pitted one that had no paint at all!

Has anyone figured out a good reliable way to repaint the ID plates on starters, generators etc.  There certainly isn;t much difference in the height difference between the letters and background.
