Hello, Plymouth people,

Could someone please look up a couple of part numbers for me?

I'm still nibbling away.....inch by labourious inch.....at getting all the necessary little bits and pieces to get Bob's '41 engine back together, after the failed 'rebuild' of last year.

I thought I'd have it together.....finally.....tonight....but yet one more 'glitch' turned up.

The new rear main seal sent by a supplier is a wrong one.....looks like one for a Dodge engine

The number on this 'wrong' seal is  863214 .....can someone tell me which engine that seal is for?

I can't find my '41 Ply parts book, but did find a Chryco parts book which covers to '39....that one gives the Plymouth rear main seal as 642976, either as a 'seal retainer' or 'rope seal and retainer assembly', used with gaskets 633298. A number for the 'rope seal' itself is given as 642978.

Are those numbers good for the '41 201 as well?

Could anyone recommend a good source for a NOS or NORS seal, either the 'rope seal and retainer assy' or.....worst case....the 'rope seal' by itself?

By the by......the last time this engine project appeared here, it was about the undersize regrind on the crank, and the advisability or otherwise of using feathered shim stock under the inserts. Well, with a great deal of calling around, I was able to find a set of NOS .012 under main inserts, which, of course, resolved the issue nicely.

cheers

Carla
