30 Ply 30U

In 1928 the phaeton body was not popular in the USA. The weather changes and no glass windows were a draw back. Only three are known to exist in the USA today. However, it was a very popular body in the temperate climate of South America. For this reason it is much easier to find them in Africa and South America than it is to stumble across a rusted out shell of a body in the States. The import/ export is not as complex as most people make it out to be. I guess it's about getting the car you want, rather than settling for what was for sale locally when you were shopping.

my restoration is more advanced than your but my mechanic he is very slow and in this period he is stopped for a problem to the back axle. My car was very used it is a lot of parts of the suspensions and brakes that are been reconstructed.?
In to look for pieces for my car? I have found so many useful addresses and so many friendly guys that helped me.?
If you need something let me know, I will be pleased to help you. I need only photo to reconstruction and the assemblage.?
If you want I send you a photo of my car than before the restoration.?
Sebastiano
Where in Italy are you? I travel once / twice a year to Milano for business reasons...
The carpenter is staring this week or so, I guess he will finish no earlier than two months. In the meantime the mechanic will keep on working. Hopefully in the turn of 2008 I will do the first real drive.

Some one e-mailed me that picture last year when I was shopping for a Pheaton in South America. I gave it consideration, but really wanted a 28, which I later found.
Just wondering and ignorant, why should you look for an american car down south? I would think you would look for a fully restored or a rare one, where import duties and shipping costs would still be worthwhile...

Todd, e-mail me your mailing address. I have the CD's ready.

Hi Patrick,

I got the CD. That was the first CD I have been unable to read on my Macbook. But fortunately I was able to read it on the work WinXP machine. What a treasure trove!

It will take me a while to update all the four cylinder pages on my web site with your photos but the effort should be very worth while.

Thanks!
Tod

Martin,
The vacume hose will run as an external mount along the inside windshield frame. The pics attached show the wrong mirror, steering wheel, and wiper motor, but do show the right idea in installation. I am also attaching pics of the wiper motor that your looking for. There is no model number "stamped" on it, only the US and Canada patent numbers and the "Trico Made in USA" stamp. This will give you a part hunting tool. There is a dealer at Hershey that would have this item. Everyone calls here the wiper lady, but I don't know her name off the top of my head.

Above the last entry of any post You find the icon ?reply?.
It brings You to the reply window, where You find ?Additional options? at the bottom.
Now two rows open to put Your picture?s file link in.  Usually 150-200 KB size will be accepted. The comment under the link- rows today says ?maximum attachment size allowed: 1300 KB?. Didn?t try that big, but put a 433 KB and a 446 KB shot to test in a new Post "Picture from Austria" . If Your?s are too big, You must reduce them, maybe as follows:

If You open Your file with Photo Studio, You can choose "size of picture" (?? /have the german version "Bildgr??e") and than give in e.g. 50%, (save as "temp" )- this will reduce the file size reasonably.

POC admin Mark Olson suggests: ?All posted photos on the web look fine at 72 dots per inch.  It is the way all monitors display things - higher resolution is fine for printing - in fact you need 200-300 dots per inch to get a good print out.  Most stuff posted on the web can't be printed unless it has a linked high resolution photo you can click on to print.?

If You have a scanner, do as I did not knowing the secrets of  grafic and digitals:
scan a print with 100 dpi or even at black and white, so at least we get an impression of Your car.

Greetings! Go

CHALTEN

Hello,
I tried last night to upload a couple of pictures of my Ply and how it looks right now in the start of the restoration process... no luck. I will try again tonight in another post.

Anyway, any idea of the Trico part number of the wiper motor?
Also I was wondering how the installation is done, as I checked the windshield frame and there is no space to insert a hose/tube of anything. Any idea?

Martin, The answer is yes, your touring car would infact be factory equipt with a Trico vacume wiper motor. I have attached photos of the proper inside installation of the unit, which differs from the exterior mount of the closed cars.

Nice photos. Could I have permission to use them on my web site? Thanks!

Hello all!
Restoration started... lots of work to do... I am trying to upload pictures of the whole process.

I got a couple of magazines from the Plymouth Bulletin and saw a picture of a model U phaeton with a wiper motor, is it so? I browsed the parts manual and cannot find such a part for phaetons, 2 & 4 door models do that the part mentioned. Anyone who can shed some light?

Thanks!

Martin
