30 Ply 30U

Yes, it's real basic and much thinner than that winshield molding. I'll get you a pic.

Thanks Patrick,

The rubber inside the outer door skin is the rubber I was referring to. Is this something I can cut out of inner tube or is it a molded part? I was thinking about trying something like the "L" shaped rubber that seals the top of the windshield on the 30U sedan. A picture of the rubber inself would give me a better understanding of how it installs / works.

Ok, there are four different rubber strips that pertain to the side windows on a 30-U. First, the rubber that holds the glass into the window channel so that it can go up and down. For this, used tire inter tube works nice. Next is the felted window channel that runs vertical in the door. That can be purchased from Steele Products, but you must reuse the riveted metal clips from your originals. Then there is the rubber that fits into the top of interior window molding to seal it at the top when closed. Finally, the rubber that I believe you are asking about. It mounts to the inside of the outer door skin at the bottom of the window opening to prevent water from entering the door panel during rain. It's about 1/2 inch by 1/16 to an 1/8 inch in thickness. It just barley stick up above the paint line. It's attached with steel crimps of some sort. I'll have to pull a door apart of go look at an unfinished car to get a photo, but here is a pic of the side and top rubber detail.

Thanks Chet,

I thought there was no seal at the bottom of the door glass.

Just an anti-rattle strip.

I think the 30U is like that too. Its just seems to me like water could run between the glass and the door. If that happens water would get into the door wouldn't it? Is that the reason for the holes in the bottom of the door----so water can run on out?

You?re correct.., that is generally why there are holes in the bottom of the door.? A little water every now and again shouldn?t hurt anything especially if you painted the inner surfaces.? After all.., I doubt you will intentionally drive your car in the rain.? If you don?t have a garage or barn., then get a good quality car cover.? Maybe every now and again you might be caught in a rain shower but this is nothing compared to a car sitting exposed for a number of years.

Just my 2 and a half cents,? Chet?

I don?t know if this is much help but on my 29-U the windows have a felting where the glass slides within the felting.   The felting appears to be held into place by a channel or in some cases between wood support.  The only rubber parts appear to be the rear window.

Of course the 30-U is a different body.   So I don?t think this will help you very much.

Good luck, Chet?

Can anybody help? ???

I have no idea what to look for. Does the seal come up above the edge of the door to seal out water or is it only to keep the glass from rattling?

Thanks

I need help again......... What does the seal at the bottom of the door glass look like for the 30U sedan??? How does it attach to the door to keep water out of the door panels?  ???

Pictures of all the rubber parts for the doors and where they go would be a great help.
