Ok, lets try one other question.  On a 56-58 Fury with the 2 x 4 intake set up where is the coil mounted and what type bracket is used.  For your information on my air cleaner question, I have located 2 61 Furys for sale on the internet with the 4 bbl engine and they both had red air cleaners.  I feel that with my original being the third, I have resolved the color question  I still need help with the upholstery pattern on the 61, are there any members with 61 Fury's that can help me?

Guys, I'm disappointed!   Over two months have passed and I thought someone in the group could help me, but I've only had two responses and no help with the questions I asked.  Your moderator hasn't even responded about the air cleaner.

I have verified that the 4 bbl air cleaner is red, so hope that helps, but your judging info will have to be corrected.  There's a 260 HP 318 Fury (original car) for sale on ebay and it shows the red air cleaner.

No, haven't gotten the photos yet.

Interesting about brakes and rear end, I'll read the article you refered me to.  With the 62 and later, its much easier, with the rear end just swap in a chunk (readily available) and put in any ratio you need.  New gear sets are readily available, also.

With brakes, saftey wise you simply install a 67 or later master cylinder and if you want discs you swap a 73 or later.  Aftermarket changeovers are readily available.

I personally have kept the 66 box stock and still have all 66 date coded parts on it.  I always install a new not rebuilt master cylinder for safety  and always buy factory rebuilt wheel cylinders - I feel that thats the safest way to keep the brakes fresh.

My challenger - when I got it the original motor was long gone, so I pretended it was 1970 and equipped the car as if I had ordered it new - with all original Mopar parts.  I installed discs with a power booster, front and rear sway bars (off a donor car), and replaced the 81/4 rear end with a stronger 8 3/4 rear.  Both cars are safe on any highway, but the Charger with original 10" drums requires following at a greater distance.

I try to keep my cars as original as possible leaving the stock master cylinder and rear end gears and driving accordingly....I stay off the interstates and out of heavy traffic.? ?Others aren't so inclined (or may not have that option) and I'm personally ok with that if they choose to take that route.? Those changes to their cars just makes my original cars more unique. ? I do have one vintage car that may see some of these changes to aid driveability under more adverse and long-distance conditions.? ?An overdrive transmission is a frequent change.? ?Dual master cylinders and front disc brakes are a common conversion as well.? ?MP Brakes and ECI and Charlie Akers and others make kits or offer the appropriate parts to accommodate these changes.? ?And, as far as rear end gearing is concerned .... some track down 3.54 gears to swap out their 4.10's.? ?Others do a complete rear end and drive shaft swap using any of a variety of rear ends.? Check the P15-D24 Tech page for a list of options.? I believe the chart is posted there.? ? Did you get the photos?

Thanks for both of your warm repllies its very reassuring and I appreciate it.  I'll keep my nose to the grindstone researching my upholstery and patience should perservere.

I have a couple of questions on your cars.  Plymouth has always been an engineering leader and had hydraulic brakes from day one, but the system is antiquated and unsafe by todays standards, do you do safety upgrades to make them cars safer for driving in todays traffic?

Gearing must be another problem for the same reasons.  Most of the older cars had very low gearing and could be harmful to your engines driving at a higher speed.  Can you find higher ration ring and pinions, or do you install overdrive units to make them slow engine speeds down.

With the newer cars different ratios are easy to come by although the stock ratios were decent from the factory.

Bob, sorry for not beeing able to give You any help.
Interiors eem to have more secrets as has technic. I only saw some Posts with dealers for older cars. No idea with which year their service ends. I did my seats with somethink close to the original, not knowing the internet 10 Years ago.
No, You?re not offending  anybody, we like newer cars too. My favorite actual cars are-  Plymouth Prowler and PT cruiser.
Good Luck !  Go

Bob, I see that there are quite a few folks looking at your post but I suspect...as with my post just recently on fuel pumps....that the "right" person hasn't come along yet.? ?I have a brother in law was a 61 and maybe some interior shots from his car would help.? However, its a 4 door and not a Fury.? ?I guess I would also suggest finding some of the original era sales literature from Chrysler-Plymouth.? They usually give you at least one good look at seating options and may go a little further in describing them as well.? ?You may also be able to locate the correct vintage vehicle in an indepth internet search of cars for sale.? ?I'm amazed at what you can locate just in local small town newspapers if you dig a little.? Some thoughts.

Have I done something to offend you out there?  I've been showing Mopars for a long time and have belonged to many Mopar clubs as well as the AACA and when someone needed help we always did everything we could to help.  I'm sorry that I don't know 6l and back, but I'm quite knowledgeable on 62 and later so if anyone needs help there I have many resources.  If someone would at least give me an idea on the upholstery, I'm really stumped there.

My other two cars are a 66 Charger (AACA Senior) and 70 Challenger convertible and I've been restoring my own cars for years, my personal hobby.  If I can help anyone out there please just ask.

If no one can answer my question, could you offer a place where I could research the upholstery pattern, the other info I can get through the AACA library.

Thanks

Bob - we'll have to check out the air cleaner-color question with our '61 tech advisor and see what he has to say.....

I have belonged to the club for a while but haven't posted much, 'till I bought my 61..  Its a one owner car, untouched and had original paint when I got it, and have been restoring it since.  I need help on the seat upholstery pattern, the car had the covers replaced and they put on a non original pattern, so if anyone could email me pictures of the front seat, both front and rear.

I got with the car 2 NOS quarter panels and sectioned the bottom half into my car and have the two pieces left that go from about 1" above the chrome line to the top of the quarter, includes trunk edge.  Anyone who can use them I will make you a reasonable price for them.

I have two more questions about detailing.  I posted earlier about the correct trunk detailing and was told that it was suppose to be grey, well --- my car is a original untouched car and yes it was painted grey, but when they painted it (black) several places were painted body color.  The top inside of the quarter panel got one pass with the spray gun, the trunk floor was painted black and lastly the top inside of the wheel tub was also painted black---so when you restore your cars do you over restore them and paint them grey or duplicate what the factory did.

Last question - my first ever new car was a 61 with a 318 and I had the dealer install a 4 bbl intake, carb and air cleaner.  The air cleaner was red.  Your judging info says 61 air cleaners should be black.  I know the 2bbl's were, is this a misprint in the judging info?
