1941 Frame parts

Now I feel like a complete Idiot.  I did not get a title for the car but can get one.  The Car was said to be a 1941.  It's a 1940!  :o I found some more info in here and found out that a 1940 had "butterfly" side opening hoods.  The 41 had a standard style hood.  At least now I know.  I checked out on Google some pictures.  Sure enough.  She's a 1940.  ;D  Anyway I still need a front crossmember for our car.  What other years are compatable to 1940?  Sorry for the confusion and thanks for your help.                  Steve and Darrien

According to the factory parts book, the part number for the 1941 frame (862910) is different from the one for the 1946-1948 frame (956113)
However, the part number for the front cross member (1141119) is the same for 1941 through 1948.

Just Curious,  What years match a 1941 Frame?  I'm fairly new to the antique Plymouth line.  I saw a 1948 in Texas and realized that they were very similar.  I understand that a 1941 car has an "X" member in the middle.  Bud sadly that is all I know for now.  I will soon be tearing the car down and getting down to the frame and seeing if that front crossmember is bolt on or welded on or a mix of both.  I think I would rather replace the damaged crossmember rather than replace it with more modern upgrades.  That kind of kills what we want the car to eventually be.  Also mixing old with new might go beyond what my equipment heve at home can do.  I will know for sure once I get a better view of it all.  I just got the car indoors and at the very least would like to get her in the air and get a bottoms up view.  I need to do more reserch on the front ends as far as which other years match the front suspension.  That is my biggest concern now.  Keep me in mind with those '38 frames.  I might want one or just the crossmember.  Thanks.

You have two choises as to how would be the best and easiest way to fix the frame. The easiest way to solve the problem  would be to replace the frame. This might sound far fetched but I am very sure if you looked around you could find a '41 frame. It does not do you much good but I have two spare '39 Plym frames from cars I have parted out.

The second option would be to replace the damaged cross member with an after market unit from Fatman, TCI or one of the other speciality manufactures. The advantage to using a unit from FATMAN, etc, is that you can upgrade the chassis to disk brakes and rack/pinion steering.  I would advise you against using a donor front clip from any of the popular cars because they can be nothing but trouble by the time you buy the donor, weld it in and rebuilt all the componets....Bill

     I found a 1941 plymouth 4 door with good sheetmetal.  I have poked around here and asked a few questions in the past.  I finally got the car on the trailer for the ride home.  I got the car for cheap so I wasn't very critical when looking the old ride over.  4 flat tires and tall grass made looking at the frame impossible.  Now it's on the trailer I don't like what I see.  The sheetmetal is in useable shape on the outside.  The floorpans have some holes but nothing I can't weld up.  All this I knew when purchasing.  I now can see the frame.  The front crossmember where the lower control arms attach is severely rusted away.  I'm surprised I did not yank them out winching her on the trailer.  The frame rails look good bumper to bumper but that crossmember is shot.  It appears to be bolted on and easy to replace.  The questions that I have are
1.  What do you call that "crosmember"?
2.  Where does somebody go about getting a good one?
3.  Has anybody had success in dealing with this or simmilar situations.
     The Car will be a great looking car, but if it will never drive right why bother.  I still can't believe that the sheetmetal is in decent shape but the front crossmember is almost gone.  I notice some real brilliant and knowledgeable people on here.  I hope somebody can steer me in a right dirrection.  I will still get the car into the garage and start tearing her down and further inspecting this closer.
