3 speed transmission w/overdrive

George charges about 1200.00 for a ready to bolt in tranny.  Even with gas around 3 bucks a gallon, the payback schedule based on fuel milage is a good number of years.  You can swap in a later model rear end get a more relaxed cruising gear ( 3.55 or so as compared to your 3.9 or 4.11) and save a few bucks.  You will need to change out your driveshaft to upgrade to new style U joints, but most everywhere has a shop the can do that for you for about 250 to 350 bucks.  So for about 300 for the drive shaft, 150 for a recycled mopar B body rearend, you get better cruising, modern parking breaks, bigger rear brakes, and can still use your stock wheels.  You have ot modify the spring mounts and perhaps the lower shock mounts will need to be repositioned, so there is a bit more mechanically then bolting in and wiring up an OD unit.

Must admit the OD are neat cause you can use them like a 5 speed as Od will work in 2nd and 3rd, but a three speed witha more relaxed rear end will make for the same difference on the road i top gear.

I own a 41 business coupe with the flathead six and three speed on the column and I am trying to find a three speed with overdrive that will fit this car. It is a weekly driver and I attend local shows in NC and when driving it always seems to want to go to another shift. A club member told me a three speed w/overdrive would really improve the riding characteristics of the car. I have contacted several sites and get the same answer, don't have one. Is this doable, any info I can get would be greatly appreciated.
