You simply repaired your 6 volt system by changing it to 12 volts. There is nothing wrong with our 6 volt systems it's just that nobody has the patience or the knowledge anymore, apparently,to repair the 6 volt systems and keep them running. At least be honest when you say WHY you changed to 12 volts. It wasn't because you wanted a 'driver', it was because you were not prepared to properly repair the 6 volt system and maintain it. There is nothing wrong with a 6 volt system,it ran these cars for many years, it takes an understanding of the greater current requirements with the lower available voltage. All the 12 volts did was make more 'pressure' available to push current through poor connections and wires that have too small a diameter to be on an 6 volt system automobile. Many of our cars are on the road and give no problems with their original 6 volt systems because nothing has been monkeyed with. The engineers that designed the 6 volt systems knew what they were doing and that their vehicles would run perfectly well on the 7 to 8 volts the generator pumps the buss up to when running. You've given up on understanding the 6 volt system and just covered up your problems with a higher voltage to push more current down the wires. You have poor and oxidised connections and wires too small to carry the current ,that the 6 volts requires, all over your car. You've just bandaided your real problems by upping the voltage across your wiring.? Wouldn't it have been more fun and interesting to have repaired the original system and restored the car properly? Mine has all the original 6 volt system in place and I've never had any problem in the decades I've had the car. ? :-[? ? ?

I wanted my Savoy to be a driver... So I had a friend (who runs an alternator shop) convert my car to a single wire 12V Alternator.
He had to change all my lights, and place reducers on the wipers and heater fan but it all works well (cranks fast too). If I wanted to
charge my cell phone or run a CD... the 12V (Alternator) is the only way to go.

All of the wiring problems below could be your problem but it might be a simply matter of cranking up your generator's current output when the headlights are on. The blinker relay is a voltage sensitive device and it's speed of switching is directly determined by the level of voltage. If the current load on the system is more than the generator can make up for, the battery voltage will start to drop. Eventually the blinker relay will slow down and stop. You need to either make sure you have all good connections or turn up the juice when the headlights are on. Check the voltage on the car near the battery when the headlights aren't on then when they're on. You'll see the level of voltage drop and you'll find out how much you have to crank up the generator's putput.

Also make sure your battery cables are as big around as your thumb-I think 2-0 is the biggest size.

You have bad grounds. Go through the light system and clean and tighten all contacts. Very critical in 6V systems. You can get a 6 to 12V converter to run a CD system.

My cars is running the original 6v system. When the headlights arent on the turn signals work fine, but when the headlights are on the turnsignals stop blinking after 3-4 blinks. Will switching to a 12v system fix the problem? Or am I looking at something else that I should give attention to first??

Will a CD player work right off a 12v generator??
I drive my car everyday, cause if I dont I could die tomarrow and never say I truely enjoyed my car.
