According to the info I have.... Standard Catalog of American Cars,, 1805-1942.... And almost ten years of years of looking for parts for my '39 Plymouth... I have found the following information to be fairly accurate.........
The 38 Chrysler Royal Coupe, Seriesl C-18,  has a lot of simularities to the '38/39 Plym's. The C-18 had a longer wheel base, 116 inches compared to 112 for the Plym's. The longer wheel base is most likely from the cowl foreward. It should be noted that the '39's Mopars have a cowl that is different from the '37/38's because of the V'd  windhield that the entire Chrysler line got in '39. It has been written that Chrysler was very skillful in adapting the standard use of the basic body shell in the entire Chrysler built car line, Dodge, Plymouth, DeSoto, And Chrysler. This was accomplished by using different fenders, longer tops and in some cases longer doors. In the case of open cars, the differences are fewer.

I hope the above info helps you in quest for information.  As a point of interest, I have found it to be easier to find vehicle information via book publications, then to suppliment the information by doing web site searches....Bill

Was the 38 Chrysler Royal coupe body the same as the Plymouth, except for different trim? How about the chassis.
Have searched the net without much success for early chrysler info.
