Dear all,

while browsing for a couple of parts I came across a 6 Volt electronic ignition system: + and minus grounded available at
http://www.vintagepowerwagons.com/products/parts/group6-electrical.htm

for ca. 175,- $

I only heard good echoes for their business.
Greetings! Go.

It is likely the petronix unit fits only the I A T distributor used from mid 50 on up.  A distributor from a 58 fits the earlier engines. The IAT is identified by the small uncounterweighted rotor and smaller cap. It seems likely also that a 12 volt negative ground system is required.

A minimal amount of machine work and substitution of the shaft will adapt a slant -six distributor to our favourite flathead. Again, a 12v system is required for the electronic ignition.

Friend of mine wants to put a Pertronix in his '49 coupe but says they don't make one for it, only back to 1958.  If you got one for your P15, they must have something that works on the early engines or do you have a later engine in your car?  Any part numbers, etc. would be appreciated.

I have used the PERTRONIX IGNITOR on several cars with great success.... a '53 Pontiac 8, 57 Ford T-bird, 59 Ford F-100, a 63 Chrysler 300 and my boat which is a '77 Ford 460.   You have to be very careful with the information pertaining to what module to use. On a 6v system you have to use a 12v coil, Pertronix recommends their FLAME-THROWER coil.  I always call Pertronix's Customer Service to get the proper part number for the vehicle then order the items from one of the large mail order parts suppiers. You also have to be very careful with the installation, read and follow the directions.

My son in-law was going to do me a favor and install the IGNITOR in my boat last summer. Shortly after installing the IGNITOR the distr. cap broke and they had to have the boat hauled out of the water and taken to a boat repair yard. I was in Montana so I got a call from my daughter about the boat needing a new distributer, I told her to stop the mechanic from working on the boat and to put it back in the garage until I could look at it upon my return.

When I returned I looked into the problem.... the distributer was full of metal shavings and cap fragments........Hmmmm????  the problem.....my son in-law did not follow the directions...the boat did not have a Ford distributer it has a marine unit which uses a non-Ford rotor and cap...Bill

I had electronic ignition installed in my P-15 about six months ago. Works great. I don't have the particulars on hand right now but can come up with it in the next couple days.  Will get back to you.

Does anyone know if Pertronix makes an electronic ignition module for the plymouth 218 6-cylinder engine? I replaced the points/condensor in my 1965 Ranchero with a Pertronix module and it works great. I enjoy tinkering with old cars, but adjusting points ins't one of my favorite tasks. ???
