Some states registered cars by the date they were
sold rather than the actual model year. I have a 1951
that was sold in January of 1952 and was registered as
a 1952. I don't know which states or how many states
actually had this practice.

I got a build sheet from them very good people. You need to send them a copy of your title and fill a form out. They helped me verify that my car is a 1931 Plymouth not a 1932 which is on my title. My engine is a PB someone swap out years ago and labeled it a 1932.

The are filed by serial number so, as far as I know, you can't get a build card based on the engine number.

As an added wrinkle, they now require proof of ownership and if your papers show the engine number I am not sure how that works.

Thanks for the info.. Do you know how to or where I could find to cross reference the engine serial number to the VIN to get a copy of the Build Card.. they won't do anything with the engine serial number..
