Thank you, but i wound up using AAA. The price was just so right. She's home safe and sound.

Hi Steve, just picked up on this thread, now you have found the serial number you will be able to apply to Chrysler Historical for the build card. That is if they have it on file, all early build cards were stored on microfiche and in some case these have been lost. What the card will give you is the date the build hit the track, when it was finished and the dealership it was delivered to, also there is most of the important details of the build although some of that information hasn't been decoded.
You mentioned FaceBook if you open the file tab on the club's page scroll down and you will find a copy of the form there.

Good luck. Tom

Quote from: NCJeeper on October 01, 2022, 09:03:37 PMI would think you could get a DMV inspector to come out, show him/her what you have going on and they could write up their report with what the corrected number should be and you submit that to DMV when you go to register it.
I had a similar situation when I bought a 1986 Chevy ramp truck. The title was missing one number in the trucks VIN. I had to take it to an inspector and he looked over everything and filled out a simple report for me.

We went out to the notary yesterday. To our surprise things went very smoothly. The agent had me email the pics if the engine and serial numbers to her. She agreed there had been a mistake on the title, she filled out a form to fix it up. We payed our rather large bill and have a car i can drive now.

Next is inspection and transportation 130 miles to my place.

Any input on adding turn signals and a reliable company to transport it?
Seems AAA will give me one 200 mile tow a year.. $165 to join..

Now comes the hard part: Convincing some DMV clerk and/or vehicle verifier. I wish you the best of luck with that effort.

It does, a eureka moment for sure!

Perfect, thank you!

We are getting there. She found the serial number.

20049971. This is close to the end numbers on the title, last 2 numbers are inverted.
20049917

Now for the engine number. Can someone snap a photo of there number so i can show her were to look. You know it's gonna be a hard conversation when you say it's by the generator. The reply is what's that look like! Lol

Thanks for the fast reply. So it looks like we need to at least find the engine and serial numbers. If we have those we can make the case for the vin on the title.

Btw, i just found the car on the plymouth owners facebook page. The owner was Ray Kuter.

What a great looking car, ( can ya see i'm excited!!)

And the "vin" on the title.

Argh! My browser just deleted my reply before I could send it. Here we go again.

I have heard of a few cars that had the body number on the registration but nearly all states used either the serial number or the engine number.

Engine numbers for 1939 were from P8-1001 through P8-411923 (the dash was not always written down).

I wonder if that large string you have is the engine number and serial number run together. P822254620049917 would be an engine number of P8-222546 with a serial number of 20049917. That engine number would be about the middle of the production run and the serial number of 20049917 would be a bit more than half way through the production run for cars assembled in the Evansville plant. But if that is the case, I have no idea on how you would get the paperwork fixed.

Quote from: TodFitch on September 29, 2022, 02:00:48 PMThe serial number tag is missing from the passenger side door hinge post?

The engine number is missing from the block above the generator?

On my 1933 the original engine number is stamped on the driver side frame rail between the running board supports. I understand that in the 1946-48 era it was stamped on the kick up over the rear axle. Maybe in 1939 it was in one of those two places. . .

Hi all,1st time poster here. It seems i will be the care giver for a awesome 1939 Plymounth Coupe. Although I have never looked at the car in person it seems to be restored. From what i am told my brother in law bought the car from a member of this forum in 2020.
(She's a dark blue coupe with rear seat)

My problem is this, the car has a MD title, with a vin number on the title and not the car. We did find the body number, no luck on the engine number or serial number.
I need to register this car in Pa and they need a picture or rubbing of the vin in order to do that.

Can anyone help guide me on were to go from here?

Not the car itself but looks just like it.

Thanks all Steve
