1939 P-8 Trans/clutch

Sounds like your clutch plate is rusted to the flywheel, there is a way of freeing it, take a look at this YouTube video, just remember that if doesn't work turn the ignition off.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fyClYfCVd0

Hi Dennis this sounds like a problem my dad had years ago. His problem turned out to be his clutch plate stuck to the flywheel the pressure plate would release but the clutch didn't. He ended up pulling it to brake it loose with the pressure plate depressed. Hope this might be of some help Bob

Sorry, the '38 has a whole different clutch throw out linkage than my 1933 so I can't help.

Other than to suggest you look for either an original or reprint of the the factory service manual. There might be one specifically for 1938. If not, I know there is one that covers 1936 through 1942 that could help.

In getting my P-8 back on the road- I have a couple of clutch/trans (?) issues.
In pushing the car-I can push it about 5 Ft. and it then goes into gear-
When running-I put it into 1st (not 3rd) and let the clutch out and it dies. Almost like the
Emergency brake is on.
Question- if my wife was to push the pedal down- Under the car I should be able to see the clutch plate
move correct-? it should separate away- correct-?
Could it be that when you push the clutch pedal down-something has come loose and it isn't
moving the clutch plate-there isn't a lot of difficulty in pushing the pedal down.
Thoughts?
