Starter just spins

Does the '39 have an electric push button to activate and engage the starter?  My '38 has a lever on the floor that I manually engage the the starter gear.

If you have an electric switch type starter system, I suspect the bendix drive may be a problem. It pushes the starter overrunning clutch and drive pinion gear forward, engaging the flywheel ring gear. If the bendix is not working, the clutch and pinion gear won't push out, into the ring gear. It could have a broken drive spring.

I'd begin by removing the starter and having it checked at a local starter/alternator repair shop.

I hit the starter switch and it just spins-doesn't engage the flywheel.
I want to turn the crank/flywheel a bit to set the points-
Could just turning the flywheel a bit make the starter engage?
(Teeth missing on the flywheel that I can't see or...??)
I am getting a flywheel rotation tool as I don't want to pry a screwdriver
against the teeth.
New battery-plenty of juice-
Thoughts?
