John-

I don't know for sure, but I think there may be a model, maybe the business coupe, that has a shorter wheel base, and will need to have the driveline shortened.  Otherwise, the overdrive transmission should be a direct swap for the regular three speed.  I didn't have to make any modifications to anything on my car for the install other than the electrics and lockout cable.

Thanks, will do.  One question then I won't bug u for awhile on this,  :-X Does the driveshaft have to be cut or shortend?  Thanks in advance.

You might try George Asche, he is the only one I know of who rebuilds and sells complete overdrive transmissions.  They run in $1,000 range.

I paid $300 for mine, delivered from a junkyard, but it was unusable...  I now have about $700 into it including purchase price, with all new electrics, bearings, seals, new input pinion, new synchro stop rings, lockout cable, and other small bits that needed to be replaced.   I think $1k is fair, when you consider the labor that went into rebuilding it.  -Pete

You've done a lot of good work on your car, and documented it very well.  I don't have the shop space to do a rebuild, so I am looking for a completed unit.  Then I may have to ask some questions as to relays, kick down switch, etc.  This car runs great, but it is in dire need of a overdrive to save the RPMs on the freeway.

I used a regular service manual that I bought on e-bay along with the transmission section for the later models to rebuild a '55 Dodge three speed with overdrive for my '50 plymouth.? The service manual is fairly comprehensive and covers much of what you need.? I also asked lots of questions here and over on the p15-d24 board.? You can see the process of my rebuild on my website, www.50plymouth.com.? I tried as best I could to document the rebuild so I could remember what I had done, and to help others too.? Let me know if I can help out...
