You might want to check your battery cables: If you have the 12v cables available at the local auto supply then the voltage drop will be too high and the starter will not spin very fast. You want as fat a set of cables as you can get. Some people have them custom made from welding cables but you can also get them from tractor supply stores or over the Internet.

I took the starter ouy of my '41 to check it out etc, it didn't want to turn over. I bought this car recently and want to see if it will run. I cleaned it, checked the brushes, lubricated bushings. The starter says remanufactured on it and seems to be missing a part that prevents it from dragging when it reaches end of travel. It bench functions ok, although it doesn;t spin as fast as it should, and when installed turns very slowly drawing a lot of amps. Can anyone give me any advise? Thanks, Bill
