40 Ply P-9 Horn Relay

When the horns on my 55 Plymouth stopped working I heard the clicking at the relay. I then ran a direct wire from the battery and touched it to the horn. Nothing happened. Someone told me that dampness will corrode the contacts in the horn. I took the cover off the horn, sprayed it with WD40 wiped the contacts. When everything was dry and reassembled I turned the key on pushed the horn ring and everything worked.

If the relay is clicking then at least your horn button and the wire down the steering column are okay.

Odd, I don't see a relay in the factory service manual for the '40 models. Hot wire off the battery terminal of the voltage regulator going to the horn, other wire from the horn going to a connector at the base of the steering column, wire up the column to the horn button that grounds it to close the circuit. No fuses in that circuit either.

So. . . Is that a relay you are hearing of the horn diaphragm just moving once but not vibrating?

Have you adjusted the tone screw on the horn? It is very, very, very sensitive. Did I mention it is very sensitive? Only a small, fraction of a turn, between not working in either direction. . .

A couple of days ago my horn stopped working. When pressing the horn button, the relay clicks. Does this mean the relay is good and the problem lies somewhere else
