Hey Edwink, Glad this turned out good for you. I was sure thinking with the car setting for a long time you would
have a problem with oil seals. Congrates, good job.  And you are welcome

It turned out that the torque converter plug is sealing ok. The oil in the converter housing came from the second oil change. I had the front of the car raised on stands this time, and the angle allowed some oil to run into the housing when I removed the plug to drain the torque converter. I wiped out what I could reach and waited a few days, then started the engine and put it in gear several times. I shouldn't have assumed the problem was with the drain plug, or something a lot worse. There is no evidence of leakage. SD Glenn, thanks for those Motor Manual pages. The plug, by the way, has regular threads and is supposed to be taken up tighter than the oil pan plug. I checked it with a torque wrench.

Is it a tapered thread design that requires no gasket???  Where in the placement of a gasket would keep the treads from sealing all the way?

Edwink, I forwarded a few pages from my Motor manual that covers the Hydrive Trans. Hope this helps you.  I sent it to your e-mail address.
Take care.

I purchased a Hy-Drive car and did the first oil change. There was no gasket under the torque converter plug, but it showed no signs of leakage. I found a pressed steel gasket of the right diameter in a parts box and installed it. Again, no leakage. I just did a second oil change, since the car had sat for years before I bought it. I reused the steel gasket, and now I have oil dripping out of the bottom of the converter housing. I think it's just the plug not sealing. What type of gasket was originally used on the Hy-Drive torque converter plug?
