No drips under the car at all. I put in a new rear seal a month ago when I cleaned out the oil pan. I am going to start the rebuild next week, or this week, anyhow. I want an engine I can go on trips with, and trust I am going to get home again. Thanks for the post, I will post what I find in the engine, hope to get by with a re-bore on the cylinders and maybe a line bore at the most. lol wishful thinking. but maybe, it really runs great right now, just that slight rattle in the engine I haven't been able to locate, I'm thinking a wrist pin or crack in the piston. I looked at Bernbaums site and he has everything I think I need. Does anyone have another site that is good? Thanks,

No drips under the car??? These engines usually have some sort of leak at the main seal. Did you look under the car?

Got  it David.  But just call me "Stupid" "Stupid" "Stupid".  After I posted the last post, I got to thinking about what I wrote and went out and checked the oil again. There was very little oil in the crankcase, I filled it with oil and it is fine again. Yes, Just refer to me as "Stupid" from now on. lol  The car does not smoke at all, never, on accelleration or slowing down. I don't know where the engine oil went. The plugs are clean also. Maybe I will wake up in the middle of the night with a "Oh my gosh, what am I thinking"  Hope it is that simple to figure out. lol The 39 has a built in solid pickup screen. I still am going to pull the engine as soon as I put my garage back together (been remodeling the garage)
Thanks for the input, keeps me sane, mostly.

re oil pressure

15 pounds at idle is normal ,  pressure is limited by a bypass at 45-50 lbs
loss of pressure on acceleration from stop  or on corners is due either to low oil level allowing air to enter the system, or that the floating oil pickup is stuck in the UP position, again allowing air in.

Thanks all, I am putting paint on hold for a little bit. I have been going to take the engine apart and check on a little knock, but never got to it. Drove it a lot, now the oil pressure is going to pot.
So, I am taking the engine out next week, or sooner, and see what makes it tick. Seems strange, like it is low on oil. At idle 10 to 15 lbs, gradually as the speed picks up so does the oil pressure, up to 50 lbs. On a sharp corner, at speed, the oil presssure drops to 10 or so. (that is the strange part0 lol We'll see. The fenders and front end comes off anyhow, I may do some paint will waiting for parts. Thanks again.

The P7 was a less expensive model line for the 39 plymouth known in America as the Roadking.  It featured fewer standard features and fewer options.  Mechanically pretty much identical except the P7 used 5.60 16 tires and the P8 was fitted with 6.00 16.
There was a comercial cahssis in the p7 line but not in the p8,

There are several 39 owners on the p15 d24 board.  You might gt some more detailed answers to questions there.

I posted this on Chets site also, maybe I will find out something, one or the other. lol
Does anybody know of any sites that cover the Plymouth cars, between the P4 and the P15 series? I am finding it very hard to find out anything about the 1939 model P7 and P8 particulary. I7 or P8.
have only seen very few other 1939 model, William Steeds and one other convertible. I saw a couple P8 sedans but no P7's. Is the P7 that scarce? If that is true, that would be one more reason to try get this one as original as posible.  I have been using this one as a daily driver, and am catching up with Bob Drown on miles driven.. LOL  (I'll meet you half way for coffee Bob)

Hi Glenn and Friends,
about the mascot, I gave hospitality home a stray cat, he has chosen me as your companion, and chose the car as P8 prefered. He always has the opportunity to go on the machine. When P8 is in the process he finds on the roof of the Corvette, the Collector's Edition. I say that he is the best method against rats!
The color of the car P8, I will send the original photo of the car as I have bought, all black. I also found a picture with the fender of another color. with two colors is beautiful, but I already own a pre-war Italian car with the same colors. The car P8 at moment is completely disassembled, tell me if you need pictures, I can send almost anything.

Sebastiano, Hey, it looks like you have a mascot also. Seems most Plymouth people have one, either a Cat or Dog, in the picture some place, lol I have been debating, mine to be solid black or with different color fenders. OR black fenders and different color body.... desisions. desisions.  You are loking good, will it be solid black? Maybe I will wait and see what yours looks like then decide. lol I am still undesided. lol  You might need a large coffee pot, you may have a crowd. lol

Africa, Europe, Asia, U.S.,
the coffee is different everywhere.
Europe, English coffee (long and black) and Italian coffee, short and focused (express)
Africa, tea in the desert or tamarind, even black coffee.
Asia, India, as in U.S. coffee, funny coffee brown mix their milk with water.
You have your coffee black and brown.
I've drunk in many cities, the next time I will be in North America will all be invited by me, I will offer coffee.
The P8 is completely disassembled and begins to have the new look, new paint with a long and meticulous preparation ..

I know different countries have specialtys of their own, Coffee or Tea in my part of the Dakotas. Did you ever post a picture of your P8? Looks somewhat like the P7 I have? Take care

Sorry Bob, I missed coffee the other morning. I got to watch my grand Babies for the day and couldn't miss that. lol
Lets do that again sometime, I do enjoy my coffee, and friends. I am having the right front fender re-painted on the 1929, I had a bubble appear,(the paint did not stick, about the size of a quarter) right on top of the fender, in front of everything else, I couldn't take that, soooo. I have been enjoying driving the 39 around, daily. I have a slight rattle in the engine, it does not get any worse, but next week I am tearing the engine down and rebuild it.  I still haven't decided to paint the car or not, I may leave the 70's patina alone, for now anyhow, it is not that bad, actually I kinda like it. lol Or go black, or two tone............
Take care

Pat, I so agree with you that it would be nice to have a cup of coffee with the regulars on this forum.

I have been lucky enough to have coffee with Chet, Mark, Greg, and Rich who check in on the forum from time to time.

Our garage is well used in more ways than one :)

I wish that all of the POC "regulars", both here and overseas, lived closer to each other. It's nice that we can keep in touch through this forum, though.

Bob, your garage looks a LOT like mine.

SD Glenn,

10am tomorrow morning my time I will have a cup of coffee and salute to you at the same time.  We painted my old Plymouth 12 years ago with Rustoleum Teal.  It has held up well considering I really don't take the best of care of the paint.  To be honest with you, I just enjoy driving it and keeping her safe and relatively presentable and now that there is the mode of thinking that likes them to have patina and such, I am very happy.

Will admit though, I am ready, Like I mentioned yesterday, to see some photos of the '39 along with the South Dakota countryside, Please, Please

Hey Bob, Maybe tomorrow morning at 10:00 oclock have a cup of coffee, I will also, and salute you across the prairies, hills, trees, and streams. It may be the best way to have a cup of coffee at this time. lol Perhaps we may meet someday. Luck to you. I may have to leave the paint job till later. (I would guess a restoration in the 60s should be considered original shouldn't it?) lol  I am not finding much on the proper paint for the 39 Roadking. Maybe I don't care enough. lol

Thanks Tod, I had found that site and went thru it pretty thorough. I didn't find what I need (did find the picture of the 39 with black fenders and light blue body but is it right?) I read his"Blog", he is a pretty doggone good writer, real interesting reading, must have just updated it because "Dick Clark" dieing was in the blog. I am still looking for a site that may have good info on the 39 paint schemes, may have to start my own. lol

SD Glenn,

I am so pleased that you are enjoying the '39, sure would like to see some photos of the '39 along with the South Dakata countryside.

I got to visit Rapid City, and the surrounding area 12 years ago next month, it would be nice for you to refresh my old brain and memory LOL.

I was out there for a week visiting my son when he was stationed at Ellsworth AFB.

Sure do wish I could meet you half way for coffee, it would be great to meet you and see the '39.
