A few comments on OD. The mount bracket for the kickdown switch is mounted to the side of the block underneath the bracket for the oil filter. This is mounted so that when the kickdown switch is attached, it will be above the cylinder head. With regard to going into overdrive, the overdrive does not care what gear you are in as long as the car is at or faster than 28 mph. Therefore it is easy to go into overdrive while in second gear. If the overdrive  handle is pushed in or pushed toward the firewall and the car is parked in gear, reverse gear is the only gear that will provide aid in keeping  the car from moving.

Go,

In the photo I sent a few days ago, the kickdown switch does sit on top of
the engine.  Follow the large black wire from the overdrive solenoid up the
firewall, then down to the rear part of the engine.  That is the location of
the kickdown switch on this car.

Sorry for confusion.  The car in the photo is not my car.  This car belongs to
Ed Juneau.  He is usually found on the P15/D24 website forum.  I am sure
that he will be happy to answer any questions you might have about the
overdrive set-up on his car.

Thanks Bill for Your explanations and
Thanks a lot for Your borg Warner text mailed to me!

I thought to have located the Kick Down Sw location on Your engine block foto ,
but my KD- Switch dosen?t seem to fit anywhere.
It has a beautifully stamped holder bracket, which for my giudgement shoud fit in it?s place
without taking any Cyl Head Bolts out...

Or do I need to fabricate another bracket?

The grounding of the ignition circuit deems to be brutal to me!!
Blueskies reported his responsable fuse to have burned a lot of times. No wonder!
I plan to drive a Relay with the Kick Down switch B (n.o.) and to let the Relay interrupt
the current from the Battery to the ignition instead of grounding it.

Go,

The handle mounted under the dash, to the right of the emergency brake handle,
is for the overdrive.  If the handle is pushed in, the transmission operates in the
overdrive mode.  When the speed of the vehicle is approximately 28 miles per
hour in high (3rd) gear and the operator takes his foot off the accelerator, the
transmission will shift into overdrive.  If the handle is pulled out, the transmission
will not shift into overdrive.  With the handle pulled out, the overdrive is "locked
out" and you will just have a three speed transmission.

After reading through it a bit, I see it is more of a maintenance/repair manual versus a operators manual.  But I am sure you will get help on here on how to use it.

I also found a head gasket source that is completely copper on both sides.  Although it has a silver finish on it, I did scratch mine from my engine rebuild gasket kit and it looked like copper to me.

I got it from Egge Machine Company here in CA.

Hi John,  Brian K. here. If you wouldn't mind you could send it to me also @    . I still have teh overdrive you sent me but it got flooded in Irene when my garage was underwater. Saved the tranny itself but the electronics were shot. I still plan to install it and freshen the engine one day. How is everthing with you? Good to see you on the site.

I found it,,,
I have the whole manual on my computer as a PDF file.
If you send me your email address I can send it to you.

Wow, I have had it since 2005.

Go,
I think if you know how to get manuals from the Imperial Website, you can download a full operators and service manual.  Lots of good information and reference.

I have done it several times, and always forget how to get at the technical part of the site, but it is very valuable information.

Plus, you can print it out, and have it handy for you whenever you have a question.

I know I got a OD manual from that site, but I am sorry I do  not remember how I did it now, as I changed to a T-5 tranny years ago.

Maybe someone can chip in and provide instructions on how to do it.  I found it invaluable.

edit, I was able to find the site, now it's up to you to find the OD manual,, its in there, somewhere.. I wish you good luck, ,like I said, i hope someone can add to my confusion.

Please, what is the "handle" at the dash for?
Is it the emergency brake handle?
Or is it an extra handle for shifting?

Thanks! Go

Just to add to what Bill said, the Lockout Switch is activated when either the Dash Mounted handle is Pulled Out, or the car is shifted into Reverse. This prevents the pawl from engaging the Overdrive unit when backing up or if the Handle has been pulled.

Go,

I found this photo of the mounting location of the overdrive relay.
In the photo, the relay is mounted on the firewall, just above the
voltage regulator.

Greetings Go,

I hope that your hand is healing the way you want it to do.

My idea is that the "lock out rail" is for when the transmission is shifted into reverse.

Hope you ave having a great day.

Dear remaining few,

  please, what is the

Lock out Rail or Shift Rail or Handle in the Overdrive Tranny for?

A switch is actuated by this rail, it enables or prevents overdrive funktion.
Is the shift rail while in 2nd or 3rd gear in another position than in 1st gear?
Overdrive shall maybe not work in first?

And please, where should the overdrive relay sit?

Thanks! Go
