Gas Cap and Starter 52 Plymouth

One of the Best Investments I've made as far as my Plymouth goes, was to buy as many Original pamphlets, brochures, manuals and catalogs as I could!  I even have a few 1955+ booklets as well to extend my range of information.  Some of these books were quite expensive, but the savings in aggravation and wasted time is well worth the cost as far as I'm concerned.  Do yourself a favor and buy a few for your personal library when you can, you won't regret it.  :)

Was able to find a case, and now having it converted to 12 v but keeping the gear to match my flywheel.  Thanks for the help

Okay,
I've had a chance to go through my '58 Hollander Exchange Book and here's what I've found.

'52 Plymouth & '51 Dodge use a MCH-6201 Starter

'52 Plymouth & '52 Dodge (both Canadian) use a MCH-6202 Starter

'52 - '54 Plymouth & '52 - '54  Dodge 6 use a MCH-6205 Starter

There are other Stater Motors that all fall under the Hollander Exchange # of 550, but the above list should all definitely fit!!  If you have access to a later Hollander Exchange Manual, that may give you more info.  Good luck with you search, one place you may want to look is eBay.  I've found a lot of excellent NOS, NORS and Used parts for my '54 Belvedere that I thought I'd never find.   :o

Okay, after looking through my Mopar Parts Book for 1954, you have some choices. The following car's Starter Motor should fit as they all use the same Starter Motor # of 1473 558:

P22 & 23 AFTER Engine # 643641   

D41 & 42 AFTER Engine # 335937

P25 Up To Engine # 321816

I hope this helps, I will look through my Hollander Exchange Manual this afternoon when I get back from school/work, and let you know what I find.

If you post the Engine # of your car, or the Part Number off the Starter Motor, I can look it up in some of my 1954 original Parts Manuals & Interchange Manuals, and give you some compatible Starter Motors and on what other cars they can be found.    :)

This one, the actual case broke.  The part that sits inside the block.  It was still mounted to the engine fine, the ears did not break. 
I was sure the bottom of my flywheel cover was full of broken parts when I dropped it out.  But the part broke clean, and stayed inside the block where the starter sits.  I have run that starter, (6 volts), for about 6 years with 12 volts going through it also.  Guess it was just time.  I am lucky it did not disintegrate and mess up my flywheel.

It is 15 years I drive my 6 V Starter with  12 Volts.
Provided good Ignition coil voltage and gas in the carb (E-gas pump to flood before starting), engine always starts within 3 seconds.
The starter armature windings will stand 12 V eternally. Maybe collector suffers more, but Ampes are half too!

Thanks for the advice Tim.  I am on my way to rebuild place who say they may have a case for my car.  I will mention the tooth count to them.

keep in mind that when they changed to 12volts, so did the ring gear and starter gear tooth count...IF you do go with a later 12 volt one would need to look at swapping the gear drive for proper mesh, this I have not done nor have reports of being done but something that should be investigated prior to changing the starter, changing both starter and flywheel would be quite the task for a starter upgrade..

I have also heard from other sources that the very first 12 volt starter did not use the new gear drive but that of the 6 volt tooth count, again, this is hearsay info at best..

this is just a caution that there are changes out there and for you to be aware prior to just bolting on a starter..

Hi all

Need a gas cap for 52 Plymouth please.

Also, a working starter please.  Could be 6 or 12 volts, as long as it fits a 218/230 block.

I am in Mt. View, CA 94020

The starter I am hoping for someone close by, they are heavy to ship and fragile.
