Gas Tank Splash

The 53/54 Plymouth must use a non vented fuel cap..most folks when they get a tank refurbished also go for a new gas cap etc and could be you have the wrong model cap.  Do pay close attention to the seal on the gas caps also new or used for fit and fitness..only the Suburban wagons of this vintage get a vented cap..

The sedans are prone to spillage..not the best location for the fuel cap I agree..there was also a 90 degree twist on extension made for these cars..not sure of the overall cosmetics of the car if you got one..but hey..they were sold for a reason is about all one can say

One of the members in our club has a 1953 Cranbrook 2 Dr Sedan with a real safety problem. The gas tank was removed and refurbished and when they reinstalled it they apparently got it WRONG.

If they put more than 1/8 of a tank of fuel in it splashes all over the road when you drive.

I am told it has a guard above and below the tank, but otherwise haven't seen it yet.

If anyone knows how these tanks are supposed to be mounted and what mounts, bumpers, or what go where I would appreciate it.

Pictures or drawings would help.

Do these have a vented cap? Is it supposed to be a sealed cap?

Forgot to mention this car has the gas spout outlet in the center back below the trunk lid.
