replacing headliner -- w/o removing rear window

I would appreciate any response to the following idea for replacing the headliner on my '56 Belvedere 4-dr sedan. -- w/o removing the rear rubber. (The portion of the rubber inside the car is soft enough that I can easily flex it away from the body (using a putty knife), and can easily insert a plastic bondo spreader).

1. buy: 1-1/2" wide flexible rubber-like plastic (8' long), and 8' of 3/4"wide velcro (8' of loops material, and 8' of hooks material).
2. cut the plastic to length=circumference of window rubber where headliner is now tucked in.
3. sew the loops velcro to the plastic, flush w/ one edge of the plastic.
4. install the rear 1/3 of the headliner, temporarily, and mark the headliner as if it would be cut to tuck between the rubber and body metal (+ 1/2")
5. on the inside of the headliner rear edge (with 1/2" folded over to the roof side), sew the hooks velcro
6. tuck the plastic+velcro between the rubber and metal; using small pan head screws, fasten the plastic+velcro to the bulging part of the body (which is forward of the rubber); [this is done so the plastic+velcro is not hanging down; if contact cement would not kill plastic, I would cement the plastic to the body metal forward of the rubber]
7. install the entire headliner, and at the rear edge, pull the headliner gently toward the rear, and push the hooks velcro on to the loops velcro; if it doesn't look right, carefully pull it apart and reposition it.
