'41 Tail lamp lens to door gasket

I would only use silicone as a last option , what i used was an old tyre tube , as someone has mentioned with a sharp razor blade and a little care!  its still working after a number of years

Thanks for the suggestions. I will experiement with a few ideas. I have an extra lense and door that are not restored for testing.

Too much silcone and yep, you'll have a mess!
I never have to remove the lens to replace bulbs, especially in the 41's.

Mark, I agree with Glenn. If you use silicone, when you have to take the lense off to replace a bulb it could be a problem and you could risk breaking the lense.

Mark, I have use the following for lens and other things. The local parts store has a gasket making material, cork impregnated with rubber. This material is fairly heavy and makes good gaskets for your needs. Put something, like a light oil, or something in that fashion on the lens surface you need the gasket to cover, press that against the gasket material to make a outline, and cut carefully with a sissors or sharp razor blade. You can make a very respectable gasket for the lens and won't wear out very fast from over tightening. Be sure to leave enough material for your gasket surface. Works good and neat too. Better than silicon I think. Good luck with that....

Mark, Not to say there is not a source, but I have never come across anyone making any gaskets that you listed.Guess you gotta go with the silicone as I have had to. I'd also like to know if anyone finds these though, not that I'm going to take everything a part to install, but if you were at that point of a restoration, it would be nice to know.

Does anyone have a source for the soft rubber gasket that goes between the tail lamp glass and teh metal door? I found a source for a gasket that goes between the metal door and body (actually I don't think there was a gasket there in '41) but I am looking for the seal that keeps water from coming in around the glass. I need it for both tail lamps and the license light/ middle stop light too. I found one NOS that is not usable for the tail lamps. The part number embossed on that is 902139. The gasket for the center signal lamp is 903462. The part number for the license lamp lense gasket is 903459.

I have not found anyone who makes these gaskets. I guess if no one has a source, some silicon chalking would work.

Also, there is a Mounting Gasket Part # 903465 for the signal lamp/ license lamp assembly to trunk lid listed in the parts book. Anyone seen one of these. I think my assembly did not have a gasket when I took it apart?
