Last Thursday I was invited to a colleague?s anniversary party in event and catering aerea, of D?sseldorf Meilenwerk  (miles factory). This is in a very nicely preserved locomotive roundhouse now concentrating crafts and businesses around oldtimers.

The working turntable had been sold to a railway museum and it?s footprint now is a cylindrical 2 story restaurant. They look on to the site of the radial rails formerly leading to the doors of the roundhouse. Some rails has been left, the new  wood floor is the presentation ground for some oldtimer car dealers. Most doors are fixed close now. This formerly open site of radial rails had been covered now.

The inner arch inside the old roundhouse itself  is some 80 private oldtimer parking platforms in 2 levels, one upper row parking lift can lower, when lower platforms has slided sidewards. One lower place must stay free for that movement.

Second arch is street for people and cars,

 outer arch is businesses: Oldie hire, clothes shop (for bikes too), toys, memorabilia, car polishing service, Bosch service (carburetor + electric, very beautiful collection of old testing machines, other paraphernalia and advertising films) insurance, estimators, oldie clubs, convertible top + seat uphosterers,  and a couple of car repair shops.

 Very beautiful and successful concept, which has 6 twins in some big cities now plus some beeing planned in Germany and Austria.
They look for places where at least 5000 Oldtimer are concentrated within one hour?s drive.
They choose old factories, an old airfield building or other classic places, -like the Ghiradell square project in San Francisco.
