I can not speak with authority on the '40 dash, but I can on the '39 dash's... The '39 dash is the same for all cars, open, station wagon and/or closed. The only difference is the location of the wiper control to the left side of the dash in lieu of the overhead panel. The dash's on all open cars/wagons and sedan deliveries were painted various colors, where-as the P-8 was wood grained. It could be assume that Chrysler followed this pattern throughout the '40's, early 50's
The original exterior color of my '39 conv cpe was black, the interior was a wine red....Bill

for my 51 convertible the dash difference vs. closed cars is
welded -at least at some spots- vs. bolted, in addition to Benji?s comment.
My dash was grained, but with lesser art level.
This could be for other years too.

The parts books doesn't show an instrument panel for the station wagon.  The convertible instrument panel is a different part number than the closed body styles -- but that may be due to the fact that convertible instrument panels were painted body color while closed cars got wood grain.  The parts book shows the panel as "in white" for the convertible while the closed cars are clearly marked as grained.  My guess is they are the same but only trying to fit the other panel will tell the tale.....

This may be a Jim B question - Is the dash in my '40 plymouth wagon interchangable with the dash from my '40 parts car? (4 dr sedan)....the measurements seem identical, but I know the cowls on the convertibles and wagons were different.
