P4 shock absorbers

Hi:  We had the same concern about the gas shocks but recently installed KYB shocks on my '36 (with '37 mountings fitted to the stock '36 axles/frame which are almost identical). We started with fronts that were indeed too stiff but ended up with a softer set that fit a later model Nissan Frontier pickup. The Part number front, was KY344429 (GR2). We used KG 5473 on the rear which is about 15% stiffer than the fronts.This was to accommodate a Mitchell overdrive set up. KYB was selected because of the known quality and our being able to talk to someone who knew the product.We gave the KYB help line the ride height( which for us was around 15" eye to eye) and approx car weight per wheel and asked for the softest ride and rebound.They also can provide the extended and compressed dimensions.  Also, we've heard that Andy Bernbaum and others sell the complete sets but don't know their sources.
So far, our experience has been much improved ride and handling especially on our local (lack of maintenance) roads!

I need to replace the shocks on my P4. All the shocks I can find are "gas charged". My experience with them on my Model A Ford conversion kit, was they were too stiff/hard.

Does anyone have positive experiences with the gas charged shocks on the P4 or similar?
What did you use? Where did you get them?

Are there any Monroe/Gabriel/NAPA part numbers to use to get them from a normal parts store?
