Hi, I said I would report my experiance with an auto transporter- It went very well and I am totally pleased with North East Auto Haul, Calais, ME. and the owner operator Mark Magoon.

There are a couple things to know: the transporter is picking up and dropping in many states and new jobs come in regularly so the date you expect to recieve your shipment can and will change, but at the rate of 50-60 cents a mile you can't go wrong-expedited services are available but prices go to $1/mile. This was for a non-running pick-up truck so winching was part of the deal, open trailer.
Having someone available at the pick-up and delivery address to lend a hand is recomended. Tires must hold air pressure, straps over tires is how it is secured to trailer. Our local, Brimfield MA Police Department was on hand to make sure the tractor/trailer unloading did not create an incident with traffic while manuvering into/out of my driveway.
Transporter broker fee in this case was $75.

Thanks, certainly given me something to think about and I will report how I make out with this experiance. I have found a transporter in IL. who can broker this job out as he works IL. to the south and west of U.S. He does not seem to have concerns about finding someone who will be willing to winch it on and off. His estimate was $.60/ mile, not a bad price.

Before I dig into my files (I have never seen this number) what is the unladen or tare weight of PT-105? This was transporters question and I guessed at 3250 lbs. but need to get back to him. (PT-81 and PT-125 probably very close). Thanks, Richie

Transporting a non-operational vehicle a 1,000 miles can be an almost impossible task. If you have a 3/4 ton pickup or HD SUV, the best option might be to rent a one way U-Haul car trailer, drive to where the vehicle is, gather up the trailer and vehicle and return home. It would take at least four days to do this. Getting a flight to the location, renting a truck and trailer might be a little faster but then you have the cost of the flight plus the expense of two vehicles. Another options would be a flight to where the vehicle is, rent a box van and/or flat bed truck, load the vehicle into the box van and/or onto the truck bed and drive the truck home. The only trick is getting the vehicle into, onto the truck. You would need to have a fork lift or a loading dock..... Been there, done that.
I transport non-operational vehicles around the Western States on a regular basis, mostly for my own purposes. I have both open and enclosed trailers that have electric winches. Quite often I need an out bound load so I am not running empty. I advertise in the car club magazines and/or online forums when I need to fill space in the trailer.
I was able help out a fellow POC member a couple of years ago with the transportation of the remains of a '28 Plym from Los Angeles to Rapid City SD....Bill

Richie,
I have been through this several times and the transporters have rules like the vehicle has to been running with good brakes so they can drive it onto a trailer. The one you are getting will require a specialized service or person to haul just it. Have you considered going after it yourself? Do you have a pickup truck or comparable tow vehicle? You might consider flying to Ill., renting a U-Haul truck and trailer and bring it home yourself. All but once when I called transporters I ended up going for the car mayself. 1000 miles is doable where 3,000 would be difficult. If none of this works, try finding someone local with a roll back or truck and trailer to go after it for you. Won't hurt to ask for a price.

Good Luck and let us know how you come out.

Hi, I have finally found a correct engine for my PT-105! Also a shell with other parts I need. Am very encouraged that I may be able to finally get to where this pick-up can be restored.
The only problem is that it is 1000 miles from me! Need it picked up in IL and dropped off near Interstate 90 in Central MA.
Any suggestions or reomended transporters?
