Many people confuse "unladen weight" (UL) with "Gross Vehicle Weight" (GVW)
The GVW rating is the maximum weight of the loaded vehicle, e.g. people, fuel, oil, accessories, and whatever is placed on, or into the bed. The GVW can also include the weight of a towed trailer. As a generally rule, a 1/2 ton will have a GVW of 5,500/5,700 lbs, a 3/4 ton will be 7,500/9,000 lbs. The GVW can vary depending on springs axles, etc.
As a general rule, pickup trucks made prior to the 1970's will weigh (unladen weight, e.g. dry, without fluids, people, etc) right at 3,000 lbs for a half ton and near 4,000 lbs for a 3/4 ton.?
Most states require a weight for commercial vehicles, the weight shown on the vehicle registration is usually the UL weight not the GVW.
If you have a 1/2 ton that shows 5,500 lbs on the registration, you are, or can be, paying way to much in license fees. Get a certified weight slip on your truck and take it to the DMV, the license fees could be reduced dramatically.
As stated by "notdavid" the weight on your truck should be 2,600/2,800 lbs....Bill

5500 pounds sounds ridiculously high.? According to my standard catalog of Chrysler products, a '40 PT105 pickup has a weight of 2800 pounds and the Cab and Chassis has a weight of 2600 pounds.

Hi, I am discussing with a transporter picking up and delivering a PT-105 and before I start disgging into my file I thought someone might just know, tare weight? I would think PT-81 and PT-125 would be very similar, weight wise. Thanks
