I believe the machine shop can go .060 overbore with ew pistons and rings no sleeves necessary.

Am I too late. As I understand this engine, it can be bored the first time to .015 and also a second time to .030. If its already been done to .030, the cylinders may need to be sleved. Kanter Automotove in New Jersey has NOS kits for the rebuild in the $650 range for bearings, lifters and springs, valve guides, rings, push rods, etc. They sell the cam and crank if you need them but extra. See their web site. Hope this helps.

If you have a 218, you may want to consider rebuilding it as a 230 for the additional cubic inches.  The only difference between the two engines is the crank, rods, and flywheel.

The blocks are identical between the two.  I found a NOS crank, rods, and flywheel from Vintage Power Wagons and put them in my '50 218.  With a 30 overbore and the 230 crank, my engine is now 235 cu in.

Find a reliable machine shop that is familiar with thes engines.

Ask them if you can source the parts, you may sve a few bucks.? Look at Egge and call Terrill tool in Texas and look at the vintage power wagon site

Have the manifolds surfaced and trued to the block.

check to see if you can upgrade to the neer style rear main seal

Get a new water distribution tube

Mill the head and deck the block for some more compression .050 to .060? .010 t0 .015 off the block rest off the head

get new head bolts, and chase the threads, these are solf for chevy 350 but are great for the application.? left is hardwars store grade 8 center is stock and right is the chevy piece.? the grade 8s are still in my 218 and worked with no problems, I have the chevy? ones in my 230 the part number id the p number, and the 25 is the quantity

Think they were 89 cents each bought 21 used 20 kept the one with the tapped hole in the head.

Good question to ask the machine shop is how they handle the offset rods, and will they re index the oil pump on installation to maintain rhe dist rotor position at 7 oclock for tdc number 1

have the flywheel surfaced and flip the ring gear if its worn.

These 6's are enhearently smooth engines but you might want to pay to have the rotating pieces balanced.

Just have it rebuilt to short block and put the head, pan and? and accesories on yourself.?

Ask if you should bring it to the machine shop torn down.? If so, make sure you mark the rods with the cylinder they came from

Well I am getting ready to have my engine rebuilt on my stock 41 P12. Is there anything special that I should do to the engine during this process. There are 57,000 miles on it and it is a safe bet that it is oringal miles since it was an A title. I have been running it and it leaks oil as well as burns it. In the mean time I have all ready had the carb and starter rebuilt.

What advice can you all give me. If you were to rebuilt your engines today what would you do diffrently??
