Thanks, that is good info. It does have me wondering (assuming they ran consecutive numbers) how can the serial numbers run 1001 thru 34654, that is 33653 serial numbers beginning with PT-105! How can that be when they made only, roughly 9000 trucks is 1940?
I cannot read the serial number yet, too rusty. The PT is quite easy to see but not the numbers. I used a soft wire brush, not wanting to disturb the surface too much till I found out a proper way to bring these numbers out, someone has mentioned a type of dye but wasn't specific.

Plymouth Trucks were built in the same plants as the Dodge Truck and shared the same 201.3-cid engine.? I suspect the sequentional part of the number included both Plymouth and Dodge trucks and the prefix was stamped according to which truck it was destined.

As you say, the sequential part leads one to believe 33,653 trucks were built.? Looking at serial number sequences for the Plymouth PT-105 and Dodge VC :

PT-105 Detroit : 8631001 to 8637731 : 6,731
PT-105 LosAngeles : 9209351 to 9210054 : 704
Total Plymouths : 7,435

VC Detroit : 8543001 to 8562183 : 19,183
VC LosAngeles : 9254201 to 9256160 : 1,960
Total Dodges : 21,143

Total Plymouth & Dodge : 25,578

So, that seems to be how a Plymouth Truck can have an engine with a higher than expected engine number.

Info I have for 1940 says "engine numbers on left front corner of cylinder block. Starting PT-105-1001,Ending PT-105-34654"? PT-105 Commercial Car body number was "4012". (1939 Commercial Car model code was PT-81 (pickup body number "M-1-2") and 1941 was PT-125 (pickup body number was "4112".) Just in case there's any question of year.

Thought I knew this....Plymouth truck engine serial numbers..but I don't. I think they start with PT. I am taking a trip tomarrow to look at the remains of a '40 1/2 ton (drivetrain all there) and I would like to possitive I.D. the engine and close the deal. If it is not the engine I need then I still want to I.D. and put it up on this forum so someone else may want it. I cannot find this info on any data base that I know of. Thanks, Richie
