The transmission end of the cable must be mounted securely to the transmission within about 8 inches from the brake mechanism.  Somewhere in your store of parts is a bracket and clamp specifically designed to do this job.  If not, 39 Plymouths use the same part.  35 36 and 37 have the actuating lever on the right hand side because they use a lever on the floor. 38 and 39 use a cable.

Okay, here's a dumb question about my 1938. When I took the engine, transmission, and driveshaft out I wasn't as careful making notes and taking photos as I should have been. I'm not sure now how to route the emergency brake cable. I have adjusted the shoe to specs on all sides but it just won't grab and hold the driveshaft. I'm wondering if it is because of the way the emergency brake cable is routed. Now, it simply? runs through the firewall and then loops around to the brake.

Should there be a clamp or tie-down for the cable somewhere at the apex of the loop? Should there be a mounting bracket on the engine block or firewall?
I don't see anything about this in any of my repair books - perhaps it is just too stupid a question?
Help please. Could someone go look at their cable and give some advice?
