'41 Plymouth top bows

The 40 and later convertibles all had metal front bows.  Just the 39 had the wooden bow.  Oak Bows made one for my 39 years ago.  I believe club member Clarence Braunberger could make the rear bow - don't know if he kept his pattern or not......let me know if you need to contact him.

  Thanks for the info. I will pass this on to the man with the '41 convertible. I contacted a company named Oak Bows in PA. and they apparently have patterns to make these bows. You were correct about the front bow being metal. The man at Oak Bow said that the rear bow is wood and there were two small wood pieces on the top frame sides over the doors I believe. He also said that he perfers to have the old bow sent to him and copy it exactly but unfortunately in this case, the original bow no longer exists. Thanks again.

I looked in my '36-42 parts book, printed in 1946. I have found this book to be the best source for parts info for the conv's. The book shows pictures of the header panel and bows, however they are not detailed. The part numbers for the '40-41-42 headers are the same. The part numbers shown for '39-42  rear wood bow is also the same.

Generally speaking, the 41-48 cars are very similar, I would think that the conv. tops are pretty much the same. I have a rear wood bow that can be used as a template to make a new one. I am in the process of sending my original rear wood bow off to have two (2) new ones made. If it can be established that the 39-41 wood bow is the same, we should have three of them made, it would be much cheaper because the jig setup would be easier....Bill

It is very unlikely that you will find usable used wood bows for a 40/41 conv.
I have been doing a lot of research on the '40/41 conv's for and article I am writing about the wind wings. I will have to look in my parts books, but i think the '40/41 conv's had a metal front header, the '39's and earlier had wood which no one that I have found can reproduce. I made my front header out of oak which I laminated together like the original. There is a couple of company's that can make the rear wood bow, however, you have to have one for them to copy....Bill

A friend of mine is looking for the front and rear wooden  convertible top bows. If he cannot find a usable set, he said he could use some he could copy to make a set or a diagram showing the correct dimentions of these bows. I do not know if other year Plymouth convertibles used the same bows as the '41's; '40 perhaps? Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks.
