Wheel rims under full size wheelcovers were black.  Wheels were often dealer painted the body color with small (dogdish) hubcaps.

First some quick history about my plain jane 63 Valiant. The car was shown at the 2006 Hershey car corral by Connors motor Co. I have pictures of the car as of that time. It still had what I believe were the original tires and wheel covers. Between that time and when I bought the car,  the tires were replaced and the full wheel covers were changed to "plymouth Division" dog dish caps. I have purchased a set, of what I believe are the right full wheel covers, and plan on useing them.  The car is light met. green, who ever painted the rims did a very poor color match. It seems the light Met. green is hard to match.
Now for my  ??? Does anyone know if the rims under the full caps were painted the same color as the car, or were they black? When the covers are on about 3/4 inch of the rim shows around the cap. Hey everone! it's almost spring!! Thanks, Bill James
