64 was the first production year for a v-8 valiant.  The engine was a 273 cubic inch with a 2 barrel carb and was rated at 180 HP.  In 65 a 4 bbl version was offered along with the 2 bbl.  It had a higher compression ratio, performance cam and special larger exhaust with a camphered muffler and and chrome tip all contained in one unit.

according to one of, the books i have , the V8 for the Valiant was placed in production in Dec 1963, and was first fitted to a production car in Jan 1964,( and if i have read this right)  by the end of the 1964 manufacturing  production it accounted for 15.5% of Valiant production including barracudas .

The 273 v-8 became available in the Valiant in December of 1963 which would have been the 1964 model.? The first cars to leave the factory were in January of 1965 with the 273 equipped.? The v-8 option was available in all Valiant models after it became available.? My book has no break down on how many were buily as v-8's.
