29 U Running Boards Question

After all the information from the posts and photos below I now know more about 1929 Plymouth running boards then I could have ever imagined.?

Hi Chet, The running boards on the 28 were metal from the factory. The coupe which I have is wider at the back fender because the fender is wider on the Coupe and roadster than the sedans. It takes its own back fender than the sedan which makes the back of the running board wider. There are ribs under the steel board to support the weight and the front edge has slots in it to hold the clips which attach to the leading edge molding to keep it on. The back and the ends are held on by the bolts at each end of the fenders and by the back side by the splash apron. L&L auto trim makes the new moldings and the clips. I had a sheet metal fabricating company make brand new running boards from a pair of rust out templates I bought on ebay for the patterns. They charged me $500.00 for the pair for correct reproductions. Now the hard part . The original pattern for the rubber may not be available now. There was a man that repoduced them for about $500.00 a set but I don't know if he still has it available. Real costly to do these running boards right. The moldings used to be in the $300.00 range , but that was back in 1997. I have pictures available upon request.   Hope this helps you out. Bill

I hope thes pictures help. I think the entire board is aluminum but I can not find my magnet to check it for sure. However it is light enough to be aluminum.

I have mine off of my car and will take some pictures for you tomorrow. They are all metal with a heavy rubber tread. The edges are aluminum. I will email them to you.

Info only, according to my parts book all running boards for the 28-29 and 30's were the same, no matter what model, sedan, coupe, roadster etc. I would have to go out to the shop and get my specs for the board to get exact thinkness measurement. If you would like that just email me back at . I check that account at least a couple times a day.

Can anybody tell me what was the original thickness of the running boards on the 29 U.? I am in the process of redoing them and I want to get it perfect.? I think it goes to the style and lines of the car.
