New Plymouth Owner, don't know where to start

Thanks for all your help. Has taken me this long to sort through some things. I believe its a 1928 Q. It has the wrench fitting on the outside of the hub. The front bumper is grooved. The radiator emblem says Chrysler Plymouth, and the serial no in the dash is RC230Y.

Welcome aboard. The information you can obtain from people on here is totally fantastic. I too am the owner of a 1928 Q. I will be glad to help in any way I can. But be assured I am still learning from other on here.

Here are a couple of things to look for in identification:  radiator ornament will read "Chrysler Plymouth" if its a Model Q  It will read "Plymouth" if its a Model U.  Model Q was the first Plymouth, generally considered to be a 1928 model.  The Model U was a 1929.  The bumpers on the Q will be flat bars with a groove in them, the U bumpers will be rounded with no groove.  If the hubcaps are present (wood wheel) the area to apply a wheel wrench will be on the outside of the cap on the Q, if its a U, the area for the wrench will be at the rear of the cap.  If you go to the "links" section of this website, click on "Plymouth, The Early Years" - then go to the various sections showing details on each model.  The serial number plate on both the Q and U is the fancy medallion on the center of the dashboard.  It will consist of 3 letters and 3 numbers - sometimes very hard to decifer but if you lay a piece of paper over it and rub with a soft lead pencil, it will make it easier to see what the letters/numbers are from the paper.

Jay there's an oval medallion right in the top middle of the dash with the car's serial number on it. It's called the 'FEDCO plate' after the company that supplied them to Chrysler. It has the serial number stamped into it,top to bottom. It will be something like "HRS123". What are those numbers and letters? The real 'number only' serial number can be deciphered from that and also the approximate production time.?And if the car is truly a 1928 it would be a 'Q' not a 'U'.

look on the left front of the engine, there should be a number embossed, that will give you the engine number, with that you will be able to find out just exactly what year the car is, if it is the original engine.

I have recently purchased what is supposed to be a 1928 U Plymouth. I have never worked with a car this old, nor with Plymouths, and would appreciate any info available. First off, I would like to determine what I have. The right side of the radiator or radiator housing has these numbers and letters.....(PAT. 8-14-28). What does those mean, and where else to look for identifying numbers?
