Hubcap removal new or old trick!

Hmmm......had never thought of that trick.  Could also use the clear line I suppose.  I have been known to put a rag or something similar under the big screwdriver I use to remove caps.  But that's about as scientific as I've gotten. 

However, i not only have the small original style caps for my 47 Plym, but have some full size covers like flippers and moon disics.
Now, those are what really scratches up the wheel.  So as long as I use something else like trim rings with the small caps to cover those scratches they don't show much.   Too many toys, I guess.

Powdercoat the wheels.  Then, remove the hubcap with reckless abandon.

:)? I had all my steel wheels sandblasted and painted while I was restoring my 1940 P10 sedan... Trying to take off the hubcaps seemed impossible? not to have a scratch on the smooth painted rims... So I came up with this idea..... I? removed the hubcaps tied on fishing line (black) on one of the hubcap fingers? , made a loop? and tied it to the same spot. Then I put back on the hubcap leaving a loop around 1 inch long that is practically invisible ... All you have to do is pull on the string and pop comes off the hubcap ... might be a new or old trick but really works Happy ply-mouthing DANiel

Sounds like a good idea to me.  I painted my wheels years ago and I have tried to be careful taking the hub cap off, but still they are all scratched up again.  I intend to paint them again next spirng.  Thats a good idea you have.  I will do just that.  Thank you  Ping
