Hi Pat

Good to here from someone that knows were I am  ;D

Yes, the Bendigo swap is on in a couple of weeks. Ken's name rings a bell, probably seen his site here or at Ballarat. Bendigo is either stinking hot or bucketing rain. There's still a big drought here so I reckon hats and sun screen will be the order of the day again.

If you're over this way again, give me a yell.

Hi Rick JL,

I see by your post that you're from Bendigo, Victoria.

I have a mate (Ken Anderson) who lives in Melbourne, but his hometown is Bendigo. His wife grew up in Echuca. Two years ago, I attended the Bendigo swap meet (NOV. 11) with Ken; he is a longtime vendor, selling fuel line hoses and automotive light bulbs.

I had a great time, other than getting sunburned on the second day.

Hi Chet

One thing you must do is replace the corks. After 80 years they dont float as well as they used to. Dad has a 29 tourer which he replaced the old tank with with a Stuart vac tank off a Buick. Couldnt get brass floats that fitted, and the only cork around was a compressed block that disintergrated when you cut it.

Good luck!

Well I got the vacuum fuel canister apart.? It appears to be in pretty good shape.? There is one pin hole in the bottom of the exterior canister but that is easy to repair.? I did break the sediment bowl trying to remove it.? The casting just disintegrated.? ?O! well no pain no gain.? The device cleaned up real well especially after sitting in the parts washer for a couple of days.? It will be fun getting this old technology working again.? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Chet..

Doug,

I just want to verify that there is nothing to unscrew before I pull the top off.? ?I imagine that loosening the straps couldn?t hurt.

Also there is a sediment bowl at the bottom which I think I should remove before I attempt to pull the cap.

Tod,? I will check out the site today.

Tks all

There is an article on servicing vacume fuel pumps in a recent issue of Skinned Knuckles. Part of the article in on their web site. You can order back issues if need be. That is a good magazine if you are working on an old car.

Chet, I wasn't brave enough to rebuild mine.  I took it to a Corvette shop that had experience with the ones on the older corvettes.  They did a fine job.  I know they had trouble getting mine apart, but I never inquired how they did it.

I read the article in the Sept/Oct 2006 POC Bulletin on repairing the vacuum fuel pump reservoir for the 28/29 Plymouth.? The article wasn?t clear on how the device comes apart.? My assumption from reading the article is that the inner canister just pulls out of the outer canister from the top.? Sounds good but mine doesn?t want to budge.? I also have the sediment glass bowl attached to the bottom.? I assume that this needs to be removed in order to separate the inner & outer canisters.

Any help you can provide in refurbishing this item would be appreciated.? I don?t want to damage it taking it apart.

Tks, Chet?
