In Dairyland each month(except Dec and Jan) a member family hosts a meeting.? Sometimes we meet at a resteraunt for a meal and sometimes someone will host a potluck at their home.? Then we caravan to an activity(which can be anything from a car show to a point of Historical Interest to a interesting shopping tour). Most are near the center of the region as much as possible but occasionally we travel to the fringes of our borders.? In November we have our annual banquet.? We talk about our Plymouths, but also much else.? You can call us a group of Plymouth lovers who are friends or a group of friends who love Plymouths.? The point is that at least in my case, the trip to the meeting is just as much fun as the meeting and if it takes a couple three hours to get there, it is worth the trip.? We are also a very family orientated group, Husband and wife are both members and equal in all areas.? ?We get together to socialize and that is what it is all about.? ?

Yikes, I think we touched a nerve here?!  They must do things alot different region to region because they do not have endless meetings out here.  I see in the current issue of the bulletin that the Carolina region will be hosting a national meet next year so you know what that means don't you?....  Yep, more meetings!

I'm in the Carolina Region.? They meet in Concord, NC, and I live near Columbia, SC.?

I'm not a typical member of the POC.? I just quite frankly don't give a tiny rat's a** about a business meeting.? It's just like the Masonic meetings I usually skp.? Same old blah blah blah how do we get members in blah blah blah we should have a car show blah blah blah.? I don't want to sit around and be bored, I want to drive my old Plymouth.? I've quit more clubs than I am in because of all the talk.? Why pay dues to sit around??

I am currently on another discussion board that is a very loose club.? We never collect dues, we have not had a meeting in 4 years, we don't have a single officer.? We get together to help each other work on cars.? We go to car shows together.? We meet for cruise nights.? We go on poker runs (when we can find them!).? And one time a year we all get together for a Christmas Potluck at someone's house.? How much does all this fun cost me?? Zero.? How many meetings do I have to sit through?? Zero.? How often to I talk with other club members?? Every day on a discussion forum.?

Makes me rethink what I get for my POC dues.? This board is free after all...

I have been in for a while.? I don't go to meetings.? Two reasons:? first of all, they are two hours away.? Second, why?? It's just a meeting.? Save that time and just print a list of events in the newsletter for the club to attend.? Better yet, eliminate the meeting and have a local region discussion board.? My region doesn't have a website, other than the standard Lemmings Motor News(yes, I spelled that right) board.? ?Everything that needs to be done can be done over the internet.? I guess I'm too young to get the way the POC operates though.? It all seems a little 1972 sometimes.

Where are you located? The Golden State Region has members from San Diego to a little north of San Francisco, about 700 miles.  Given the distances involved, holding region wide monthly meetings is not an option. We are doing good if we have one region wide meet where we can discuss business "face to face". The folks in the LA metro area have had monthly group meetings, but for the rest of us everything is done through the web site: Schedule events, post classified ads, post write-ups/news, etc. Sounds like your style of keeping up with club events would work in our region.

I will say however, that we have found that the old car demographic includes a substantial number of people who are not comfortable using computers so we have to make special efforts to include them (either telephone contact or print and mail the contents of the web site as a newsletter).

I live in a region already, just wondering what attendance abroad is like at local level meetings.

It only takes 5 members to form a region - if you'd be interested in doing the leg work, I can supply a list of members in your area.....Jim Benjaminson, Membership Secretary - Plymouth Owners Club.

I belong to Dairyland and we seem to average about 20 or so members per meeting.? Groups get together and attend events such as Nationals and the Tulsa show as well.? We are spread all over too.? All of the state of Wisconsin and Illinois from about Interstate 80 north.? ?I try to attend as many meetings as possible but even so most are about 2 hours away on average.? ?After almost three years I still haven't met all the members.? Still it is a great group(mostly retired, but a lot of fun)? and I am very glad I joined.

For what it?s worth,

The region I belong to is in a different state so most events are a bit of a drive.? The region, which is in my state, might just as well be in another state because it is further from me then the region I have joined.? ?Since I have a full time job, one car in the process of restoration, another constantly needing attention and two properties to keep up with..,? I don?t have to many weekends free for socializing.? I mostly hang out at the local cruise in?s where you can stop in for an hour or so and then get on with other stuff.? I probably know more members of the Modal A ford club in my area then my chapter of the POC.? (Not their fault , but mine.) I have met a lot of Plymouth Owners in and around my immediate area but they are not members of the POC nor do they have an interest in joining.?

I have met a number of folks on-line and since I travel somewhat in my job I have gotten to meet Plymouth owners in other states and countries.? ?I interact more with the POC members on this Forum then I do with my chapter of the POC.? Just not enough time in the day but I always have a minute or two to check the posts here and in other areas of the web.? (Day or Night anytime is right)

I created a web forum for my local chapter but most of the members are not computer users in that the club uses a telephone tree to communicate.??? Also the chapter itself is roughly 90 plus percent retired people.? A little old and set in their ways and there is nothing wrong with that.? I think there are 75 chapter members and only 6 logged in so the forum space sits unused.? ?I thought it would be a good way for busy people to keep each other up-to-date.? I would be willing to bet that I am the only member of the Mid-Atlantic Region on this forum.? If there is another member out there in cyber space drop me a line.

I am curious to see what attendance is like in the various club regions at scheduled events.  Is attendance up or down in your area?
