Thanks Jim. there are two small holes in the right front door post, so if it was a tag it's long gone. I'll start a search of the frame tommorow. Thank you, Bill james

Did you look on the right front door post?  The serial number tag (they weren't called VIN numbers back in 1931) was located there.  If you e mail me with your engine number or body number, I may be able to provide the serial number for you if the car had ever been registered with the club in the past.  If you need it - the engine number is stamped into the frame.  Not sure on the '31 if its on the left front frame or if they had moved it to the left rear frame (by the left rear wheel).  From '33 on it was at the rear of the frame.  Jim Benjaminson

I'm sure this has been covered in the past, but one more time please? I'm fixing to change the state registration on my 1931 PA from California to Virginia, my new home state. The only number on the CA pink slip is the engine number. On the car, the only numbers I can find, other than the egine #, is a fisher body tag on the fire wall. I have gone over the door posts with a magnifying glass, and find nothing there. I just want to be ready to argue with VA DMV when I get there. Thanks, Bill James
